<p>Which New England lac's (and ivies) are best for someone looking to major in math but who wants a smaller liberal arts atmosphere? I'd love it if someone could also give a reach/ match/ safety rank.</p>
<p>I'm ranked 1/70, great transcript, 2190 SAT (might retake) AP 5's in bio, comp sci ab, us hist, euro hist, lang/comp, govt, taking AP calc bc, physics, stats, and english this year. Good extracurriculars, will have great recommendations.</p>
<p>Princeton is THE one for math in the northeast.</p>
<p>When I visited Williams they made some comment about how they have the greatest percentage of math majors out of LACs, or greatest percent who get PhDs, or something like that. I can't imagine Williams wouldn't have a great math department in any case though.</p>
<p>Most New England top LACs and Ivies should serve your math needs fine/about equally though. None of the top ones vary THAT much in particular departments.</p>
<p>To be honest, if you want a LAC that is fantastic for someone who wants to major in math, go to Harvey Mudd. I can't think of another LAC so focused on math and science. It's part of the Claremont Consortium in California.</p>
<p>Other LACs that were quoted as strong in mathematics are Carleton College in Minnesota and Davidson College in Georgia. (Fiske's Guide) Neither of which are in the northeast either.</p>
