Help me choose 1 school to apply to

After finishing my last quarter of college with a 2.3 GPA I have given up most hope of transferring to a better institution than I am at right now (UC Riverside). To top it off, I picked up a fortune today that said, "no matter how much you wish, things won't change. Just let life play it's part."

That being, Prior to the 2.3 GPA quarter, I had around a 3.3 Cumulative GPA.

1st Quarter ) 3.1
2nd Quarter ) 3.4
3rd Quarter ) 3.69 , it averaged out to a 3.3 because I took a remedial English course during the summer and got a C.

So since I've given up on applying to colleges that are Matches to me, I'm just going to apply to 1 prestigious school far reach school. What I had in mind was Cornell, Duke, NYU, Brown. Feel free to suggest any other :)

What is your overall GPA? How many credits do you have? Will you be applying as a transfer student? Are you still enrolled/taking classes and how many total credits will you have? What do you plan to study? Do you require financial aid? Why do you want to attend Cornell, Duke, NYU, or Brown - just because?

Transfer acceptance percentages are usually lower than first-time applicant acceptance percentages, which are already low.

“So since I’ve given up on applying to colleges that are Matches to me, I’m just going to apply to 1 prestigious school far reach school.”

Why are you wasting your time and money? The application process is not a lottery. Find something more useful to do with your time - like studying so you can get your GPA back up.

@M’s Mom - I’m glad that you used the word lottery! That’s exactly how I see this. I keep a steady blog/journal so I can easily edit those for a personal statement so time is not an issue. I am a small business owner so a 60$-$70 fee for an application is also not a big deal for me. Studying for another year can definitely get my grades up, but that would cost me another year in college which with the average annual American income is ~$26,000.

@college_query - As for cumulative GPA, I stand at a 3.24 at the moment with 56 Credits. I also have around ~9 community college units at a 4.00. So I’m not sure how that is going to factor in. I’m currently enrolled in junior college, with about 25 units. I am definitely going to apply as a transfer student, and for financial aid. My main field of study is business/economics with a focus in mathematics for investment purposes. I picked those schools just because, but NYU is strictly because of Stern. I understand admissions are really low, but I’m just treating this as a lottery ticket, if I don’t get into anything there can always be graduate school. Thank you!

Any opinions ?
