I was accepted to both Stanford(EA) and Rice and these two colleges have always been at the top of my college choices. Until recently, Stanford was my #1. But, just the other day, I found out that Rice offered me one of their merit scholarships worth $18,000 per year, without financial aid however. Stanford, on the other hand, is offering me $8,000 in financial aid. So basically, the difference comes down to paying $10,000 per year less if I decide to attend Rice than if I got to Stanford. I could really use some help here!!!

I'm looking at going into linguistics and neurobiology/neuroscience for a major. Traveling abroad is almost a must for me! And, I'm probably looking too far into the future, but I've always wanted to try for the Rhodes Scholarship or the Truman Scholarship, which I know are extremely competitive programs.

Anyway, what is your opinion on where I should go? And, if you need anymore information, just ask me.

Stanford, much better climate, near Silicon Valley.

Try talking to Stanford and check if they can increase the aid…

Bioboy12, that’s kind of what I’m waiting on too. I applied to some of the upper Ivy league’s who are notorious for having extremely generous financial aid packages. If I happen to get some good financial aid from them, maybe I can talk Stanford into increasing the amount they give me.

This is a discussion to have with your parents. For some families, the cost difference would be decisive, for other not at all. Find out how price sensitive your family is, and then come back for a discussion of the relative merits of the programs you are looking at.

And all the top schools have many study abroad options. This isn’t significant factor and certainly doesn’t differentiate Rice from Stanford in a meaningful way.

Stanford. pay that extra money and go

Stanford, no question. Stanford’s got it all: academic excellence, prestige matched only by HYP+MIT, international reputation matched only by Harvard and MIT, career prospects, weather…
