Help Me Choose A College!

Susan R. I tried emailing Del but that didn't help much. I am going to call them because I love the school and the campus. Also, my mom said yesterday she will be taking out a home equity loan or something like that next year for about $100,000 I think, so that will help me some. She won't use it all for college but some. I will talk to her a bit more. Lafalum84, do you know how many classes you can take at the other colleges?

Also, what do people think of me trying to go to Delaware?

From the UMass Commonwealth College website - Linkin, you've got four other apples on your list; this is the one orange. Consider whether this might offer some extra value that simply being a student on another large campus wouldn't:

As a Commonwealth College student you’ll join some 2800 other students who share your desire not just to succeed but to excel. You’ll develop enduring ties with faculty members in small, intensive classes. You’ll find yourself challenged by an array of interdisciplinary seminars, enriched honors colloquia, and community service learning courses. You'll have the opportunity to join an even larger circle of student scholars by participating in national and overseas study programs. In every class and every event, Commonwealth College will encourage you to find connections—between disciplines, between theory and practice, between yourself and the people around you.

Yeah, I've read that before gadad. Thanks. I know the Commonwealth College will offer me closer relationships but I am not sure if I would like UMass as much as I like UD? Anyone have answers to my above questions?

No, I don't think that UDel is worth your mom taking out a home equity loan for !!

It's not a home equity loan, she is actually refinancing and we will have about $150,000. She is using that to maybe buy a car or renovante one of two houses we own in NYC. She is taking out no matter what.

I suggest attending each school's "Admitted Student" events and attending the meetings specific to your major. After my daughter and I did so, campus, dorm, food, even reputation and (perceived) prestige etc... was secondary. What has gotten her excited about attending college was hearing the specifics of her specific area of study and meeting some of her professors. Once we made these vistis, there was an obvious choice.

How about if I am undecided, should I attend those events?

Definitely. Your choice will be obvious. You must have some area of interest.

Yeah I do, engineering/science. Thanks a lot. I will do that when I attend the Admitted Student Open Houses.

Does anyone have any other opinions about the three colleges I'm left with?

Bump! 10char

Hey, Linkin Are you going to Del the week-end of the 21st even though you haven't decided? My D wants to go and check it out again. We are so up in the air over this it isn't even funny. The cheaper in- state or the dream school? Our options are: Fairleigh Dickinslon (honors) along with 17k a yr, Monmouth University 11k a yr. Rowan University (havent gotten the financial pkg yet) and Loyolla, Md. that hasn't sent their decision yet, but I think she is in. Ultimately, like you it will be her decision on whether she wants to be saddled with the debt. That is the ?

I think I am. I want to, it just depends on whether my father is working. I already visited it once though and loved it.

Any more opinions about UD, UMass or UConn?
