Help me choose a uni!!!

Hi, this is my first post so im hoping everything will turn out fine with this thread. First of all I live in florida and attend an IB program. My UW GPA is 3.786 and weighted its 4.62. The problem is that I don't have many colleges picked out yet and seeing as im a senior im running out of time. The only decent unis in florida are UF and UM but seeing as UM is very expensive my first and only choice as of now is UF. So if you can, help me choose some colleges to apply to. My first SAT (cold) wasn't that good around 1800 but im hoping to bring it up to 2000-2150. My desired major at this point will either be chemical engineering or finance (finance+msfinance if i get into UF). All the other colleges seem to suck and I thoroughly believe that UF is my only option. Im interested in both areas but my ideal job would definitely be management consulting, albeit I'd be satisfied working as a chem engineer at exxon also :) So yea help me out if you can and thank you for your time. Cost+reputation is important for me as Id rather not be a $100k in debt by the time I get out of college.

You answered yourself buddy.

“Help me choose a University”

“My ideal job would definitely be Management consulting”- UF is the #20 undergrad school in the country for management
“Cost+reputation is important for me”- UF is cheaper with an equal if not better reputation than UM
“Id rather not be a $100k in debt by the time I get out of college.”- So don’t go to a private school

UF is definitely my first choice but im looking for backup choices in case I dont get in

Most of the people that I know that either didn’t get into UF or decided, for whatever reason, not to go here went to UCF instead.

New College of Florida is also a pretty good school, though it’s “different” to say the least… Maybe worth checking out though.

Yup you’re at the right place. Just work on getting your SAT score up, as you stated, and you should be good assuming you have a decent number of academic courses and extracurriculars/leadership.

As far as other unis with good reputations and that are affordable, they would all be in other states which gets rid of the whole affordable aspect.

I would look to see what private schools offer good scholarships. Unfortunately, many of those aren’t stellar in your areas of interest and don’t have much of a reputation.

Best of luck on raising your SAT and finishing your senior year strong.
