I’m deciding between Florida State University and North Carolina State University.
FSU: Full Bright Futures (In-state) will be living in the dorms with a meal plan
<$5000
NCSU: $25,000 financial aid, will be getting married to a military member stationed in North Carolina (not sure if I qualify for I’m-state tuition, considering). I won’t be paying for housing, no meal plans, and will have transportation
<$10,000 (if I pay out-of state)
<$5000 (if I pay in-state tuition)
When will you be getting married? Long distance at the early start of marriage, particularly if it is unecessary, can be very straining. Why would you even consider not living with/near your spouse given a choice?
That said, if your soon to be spouse will be transferred/stationed elsewhere (overseas) in short order, then definitely would select the cheaper option. FSU. You definitely need to clarify the tuition situation before making a decision
I guess I am thrown by the marriage…why are you bothering to get married if you do not intend to be together? There is a lot of missing details to give you a thorough response. Best of luck!
Fayetteville is maybe an hour drive from NCSU. I do believe being married would qualify you for in state tuition. So if you go to FSU, you aren’t getting married? Getting married just for school reasons doesn’t seem like a great idea. I think the schools are similar.
Him and I have been together for 4 years. We want to start living together, but due to financial restrictions of mine, I’m not able to afford going out-of-state. We will be getting married in a year, but we’re considering getting married now so we can live together and avoid the costs associated with room and board. Since he’s in the military, we’ve been long distance for a long time and we wanted a change. He says he’ll pay for my tuition, but I don’t want him to pay ~$15,000 for my out-of-state tuition. If I stay in Florida, we will have to postpone the marriage since you’re right, a long distance marriage will be troublesome. We’re still trying to figure out how to go about it.
