Hi, I'm sophomore engineering major. After talking to people, doing some research, I prefer to pursue either industrial engr or mechanical engr major. I have the same amount of interests on both of them.

I like industrial because it goes toward people and business
I like mechanical because I'm interested in machine, automobile, engine, these types of stuff.
And they are both broad.

I don't want to do double major, so which one do you think I should pick?

this really isn't a decision anyone can give you advice on...some ppl might give some advice...but it's all about interest...if you still can't figure it out...research on what an industrial e would do during an average day and what a mechanical e would do on an average day...the key here is to talk w/ ppl who are in these fields and learn about aspects of each that you might appreciate or might hate...

I'd agree with this ... I'd also add the IE tends to use analytically based hueristics to solve problems; great for people who are pragmetic problem solvers ... and ME problems tend to be more closed form with more rigorous methods to find solutions. Those are generalizations but I think OK.

Lenny- perhaps a school that offers ME with a business concentration might appeal to you. Many of the higher ranked IE schools are located in the midwest. Which schools are you looking at?

I am currently attending Penn State University Park. Like I said i'm sophomore and i have till end of semester to pick the major. I've talked to advisors, upperclassmen etc.

I know this is my own decision, I just wanna hear some more suggestions.
