Help me Choose between NYU and UofC

Me:
Intended Major-Political Science and History(So I guess I would apply to CAS if I would go to NYU)

Personality- I like to study and learn but I also like to take some time off and hang around, play some video games, go out into the city, bars, clubs, parties, etc. I'm a study-first party later guy though.

Looking for- A real college expierence. Nice dorms...etc. Make good friendships with other people, go to clubs party. Ahh yes and hot chicks, thats another thing im looking for. In addition, I would like to go to a school that is prestigious in a sense. Like If I wanted to go to an ivy league law school, which one (UofC or NYU) looks best on my application.

City- I really like NYC and thats why I lean towards NYU a little bit more but how is Chicago compared to NYC? Clubs, bars, etc.

Dorms- Im looking for a dorm system where I can get to know a lot of the people. Im also looking for a college where they hold dorm parties, and theres a good social scene at the dorms.

Social: How are the people at NYU and UofC? Im looking for people like me...study hard party hard...etc.....

Help me choose!!Thanks.

You sound like you'd be happier at NYU, but you should make a point of doing an overnight at each school.

on what points though?

I don't know if this is true, but from what I hear of UofC, students work their butts off studying. NYU seems to be more of a party scene.

the better school is U of C. which should you pick? NYU

NYU is definitely a better fit; keep in mind the girls at u of c are absolutely abysmmal... you will cry when you see them. also, your more of a city guy then some "unique, intellectual U of C" type person
ive toured both schools, and preferred NYU and my interests are quite similar to urs

I see such comments about the poor girls at U of C all the time! Aren't there any defenders out there???

NYU sounds better for you but keep in mind that it is a massive school and you are NOT going to get the "college experience" you mentioned at either of those schools - college experience meaning football/sports, campus community, frats/sororities maybe, school spirit, etc.

NYU has no real campus, mostly buildings scattered through the streets. UChicago has more of a campus feel, not being interspersed with local stores, people etc. NYU is really sprawling, and one can feel kind of lost.

kcirsch is right in that neither school has much school spirit.

City-wise, I find Chicago to be cleaner, more compact, friendlier, and more 'do-able'. On the other hand, one does need to get on a bus/train to be in downtown Chicago. While in NYU you are in the city, there's no getting away from it.

The 2 cities are VERY different, and I would rather live in Chicago.

It is easier to find food and entertainment around NYU.

NYU has 19000 undergrads and 19000 grads. Chicago has about 4000/7000.

I have visited both, and seen attractive males and females at both schools. You really need to visit both places

yeah visit both places and im 100% sure ull find the girls at u of c to be god awful... im still getting over it...

Oh goodness, come on! NYU is in the middle of SOHO...there is no campus! You will not have a typical college experience. Kids will not spend time socializing in the dorms...they will be out and about exploring NYC...the dorms will, in other words, be empty a lot of the time. And that's just mean...the U of C girls are not ALL hideous.

Yeah, you can always find someone attractive outside of school if looks is what you're after.

they are quite hideous....

Well, if you want a gorgeous bimbo with an IQ of 10, be my guest.

Have you considered Northwestern? It sounds like it might be what you're looking for.

Okay, sorry for being way too acerbic. I think you'll be happy with either...engage in your intellectual pursuits at school and then find somebody attractive in either New York or Chicago...although you may have difficulty discerning said attractiveness in Chicago with the blistering winds and subsequent body bundling.

I don't know much about UofC, but I can tell you a lot about NYU. I stay over there a lot since I have lots of friends who go there, so here goes...

NYU is awesome. It's right in the West Village, which is amazing. Your right around the best areas ever, like Bleeker St., St. Marks Place, all of the awesome clubs and bars throughout the village and the East Village and your close by SoHo. Then, if you wanna go down a bit more you're not too far from the finanial district, so it's great for internships. But like, none of the bars card, or if they do, it's really easy to pass with a fake. All of our IDs say "under 21" right on them, but you just chalk it a bit and nobody cares.

Though it doesn't have a traditional campus, Washington Square Park is right outside, so it's almost like their supplmenetal campus, like the park is always filled with NYU students. Plus, if you're walking around the Village on a Friday night, and you're around McDougal St. and all those areas, the whole place is like one big NYU campus. No matter where you go, you're going to bump into other NYU kids. Plus, the dorms are pretty sweet. At least for the dorms I've stayed in, the rooms are HUGE and everyone has their own bathroom. The dorm halls are a ton of fun and their are big room parties all the time.

Having all those other schools aside from CAS at NYU is also great. I've met tons of extremely interesting people who go to Tisch and whatnot, and it's so interesting to see their projects and talk to them about what they're doing and such. Also, you might get asked to be in one of their film projects, haha. Good times with Tisch kids. Walking through the halls and the streets, there are tons of things posted up for all the millions of things to do - plays, galleries, random crazy stuff. I just love it.

Then there's the awesome academics...

Sorry this is pretty long, I'm just letting you know why NYU is amazing.

I've heard that the UChicago core is quite hefty. That's the only turn-off for me. I haven't looked into the NYU core, though...

aside from CAS? Do you mean CAS isnt a good school or are you saying you are in CAS and the other schools you know in NYU are great as well?

I'm pretty sure oceanborn meant it's great to have the other schools in addition to CAS. Haha, I think we all know Tisch, Stern, CAS, etc. are good schools. :)

only problem is the University of Chicago girls...ahhhh!!!!
