Help me choose one of the colleges at UCSD!

Ok guys, so my current situation dictates that I have to choose one of the 6 colleges at UCSD by the end of this coming week. I'm a political science major with the tentative goal of moving forward to law school after my undergrade work. Right now I'm leaning towards the Eleanor Roosevelt college, but I'm still open to any of the other 5.

Thurgood Marshall might be good for your particular major. You should look into that, if you haven't already. Why are you learning toward ERC?

Well from what I have researched/heard, it seems ERC is more geared towards preparing students for a global/multicultural economy. Now that you mention it though, Marshall does make a lot of sense for my major.

BTW, I'm going to be signing a (TAG) agreement with my JC, which is the reason I need to make my decision on the college ASAP. However, I just read in another post that UCSD does not offer housing for transfers? That could be a major deal-breaker for me, as it would be imperative for me to live on campus. I'm really looking forward to going to UCSD, so hopefully there's a way something can be worked out so I can live on campus.

Warren is said to be a good college for studying two dissimilar topics - Biochem and Art for example.

It's starting to look like the housing might be a problem. There is no guaranteed housing for transfers; my only option for living on campus would be to sign up on the waiting list and pray for good luck. And as for off-campus housing, I really would not be interested in living in some obscure apartment complex by myself 20-25 minutes away from campus.

UCI (and to a lesser extent, UCSB) are starting to look a whole lot better now...

You know, the college system at UCSD is a stupid and needless complication.

Why have them at all?

I guess the thinking was that if the college system has worked for 900 years at Oxford and Cambridge, it might work at UCSD.

coureur: Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford and most of the Ivy League seem to have done fine without them.

Hey, I'm not saying that a university MUST have colleges in order to do well. That's clearly not the case. I'm just pointing out that there is a legitimate rationale for establishing a college system. It has a very long history of success.

I like the 6-college system. It's why I think UCSD is so appealing.

Sorry for the harsh post earlier. Should not have used the word "stupid".

However, my question remains: "Why have them at all?" especially if you're not guaranteed University Housing for 4 years?

Doesn't it self-destruct after 1 to 2 years?

Help me out here.
