Help me choose please, I would like you opinion.

I have a list of schools that I have been accepted to and I can't figure out which one even comes close to my number one. I value finances, location, academic, and general vide as the most important to me.

Accepted: Northeastern, UVM, WPI, UMASS Amherst, BU

My Issues: All of them will leave me with debt above 40,000K after four years pretty much, except UMASS Amherst. I am someone who does not do well when under the thumb of the bank, I don't think I could handle it.

But I really want to be somewhere where I think I can really fit in.

WPI
Pros - hands-on project based learning, smaller school, Nice city, access to skiing at Wachusett (I like to ski)
CONS - very poor M/F ratio 70/30 I am a guy, expensive, no real options if I dont like engineering

Northeastern
PROS - Co-Op, City of Boston
CONS - I feel the program might be a bit high pressure for me, maybe the city will overwhelm me, I like the country.

BU
PROS - Awesome research oppourtunities, aerospace engineering
CONS - COST

UVM
PROS - ATMOSPHERE, location, hands-on
CONS - COST

UMASS
PROS - nice city, access to skiing, I can find my niche in a school this big, flexible majors choices
CONS - it does not have the prestige my other schools have, big school

I appreciate it if you spent your time reading this, thank you.

Any opinions are appreciated.

I’ve been in higher education for over 30 years - I don’t perceive any great “prestige” differential between UMass and the other schools you listed.

I don’t think any of the other schools are prestigious enough to make the debt worth it. UMass will be just fine.

UMASS! Your pros far outweigh the cons… and the cost difference isn’t something to ignore.

Take into consideration that WPI and NEU both have paid coop opportunities. In your instance UMASS sounds like a great fit.
