Hey everyone. I'm a junior in high school so I can't give a complete portfolio as it's still in the making but I'll give an overview of what I've achieved and what I hope to achieve. :)

My school is considered "prestigious" but due to the fact I moved from a top 50 school in the U.S, I disagree

SAT: 2250-23xx (its been steady for a while and i'm ready to take it in oct! if i have a really bad day, it might be a 2200)

ACT: I took PLAN and got a 30/32... so estimating ~34

Grades aren't too good :/ So I'm not sure which schools I have a chance at:

Sophmore year:

1st sem:

Honors English- C+ (i slacked... :/)
Chemistry- A
AP World- B
Spanish- B+
Honors Math- B+
Physics- A

2nd sem:

Honors English - B+
Chemistry- A
Ap World- B
Spanish- A
Honors Math- B+
Physics - A

Junior Year (estimates, but it's accurate for now):

Spanish- A
H Precalc- A
AP Bio- A (i'm not too sure as of yet)
Ap Chem- B (think it's easy right now, but i'm expecting it to get more challenging)
History- A
English- A

ECs:

Varsity Track
Starting a non profit
Own several online businesses + websites (makes $5000 a month approx so far, expanding more and going to triple this soon!)
Coming out with internet marketing products and webinars (in the process of making them now!)

I had a bigger list before but I'm blanking out so I put my main ones up :)

I wasn't thinking about going into business at first but I'm willing to consider it now if that's what it takes to get into a better school :)

Oh and bad news... I'm asian :/ So the grades will hit me more.

But can you list the best colleges I can get into? Thanks!

Hey… Just a head’s up, I think you might get more replies if you post this over in the “What Are My Chances?” section. :)

Yeah, your grades are probably going to hurt you a bit. If you want to apply to undergraduate business schools, your B’s in Math will lower your chances. However, your extracurriculars do sound very impressive. Also, the upward trend in your grades looks promising.

As for good schools…I’d recommend that you look at University of Pennsylvania, UC Berkeley, U Michigan-Ann Arbor for undergrad business. I guess Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, Stanford are all great for Computer Science. Of course, these are generally reaches for everyone.

I’m sorry if I seem a bit unsure of which schools to suggest. Much of the selection process depends on your interests and general preferences. You haven’t given sufficient information. For example, you didn’t exactly say what you want to achieve.

Nonetheless, I hope I’ve helped. :)

(NOTE: Take my words with a grain of salt, if you will. I’m just another struggling junior interested in CompSci and Business.)

It is difficult without knowing your standing within your class. Even in schools that don’t rank, the counselor usually provides info has to how you relate vs the other students.

Will freshman grades be incorporated into your GPA?

You may disagree that current school is prestigious, but is it “known” at colleges you are interested in?

And, all this must be taken into the context of what you think is “best colleges”

Some on this forum only consider the top 10 on the USNews list as the “best”

If you were my kid with an internet business making $5k/month, I’d strongly suggest focusing on the business and college to be secondary! That is some income, especially for a high school student.

Longhaul - I’m not too sure. My latest rank is 190/559 BUT this is completely inaccurate since this was sophmore year. Students taking classes such as math 1, art, etc. are ranked 1/559. In fact, almost no one taking the challenging courses is ranked 1st. Our school doesn’t weigh our honors programs. This year, with the APs and honors, it’ll make the difference.

Prestigious for me is… UCLA and above So 25th and above I believe. I’m thinking about WashU because of my double legacy.

Honors classes and AP classes in junior year are now weighted :-)

Everyone that’s taking any sort of challenging classes has a low rank sophmore year and junior year it jumps to 30/5xx usually. (ex: my schedule)

It’s due to the fact that the students taking regular courses in sophmore year and take them in junior year don’t have the extra point advantage and the fact they still find it more challenging, thereby getting a C/D in their regular classes

Juniors who decided to take ap classes after only taking regular classes during sophmore year end up failing

however, do you have any recommendations? :)

Tough to tell when you don’t actually have any scores. Your GPA will show good gains from a 3.16 to a 3.5 to something. You’ll be considered OOS for all schools. What can your family afford?

I figured a 3.16 Freshman year, 3.5 Soph year, higher in Junior year when you don’t include differences in GPA for +/-. OOS = Out of State. Maybe consider Indiana and Ohio State. Good business schools.
