I want to major in international relations. I'm African American living and born overseas (dual citizenship). Studying the IB diploma at a very small school, 11 in my class, I'm probably ranked 2nd, we don't have 'GPAs' in Australia. I don't have A HEAP of extracurriculars (my school didn't offer any) but those I do have include leadership positions and I've founded a few organizations, including help start a student council at my school. Haven't taken SAT, think I can get a 2100

Johns Hopkins is an excellent choice as a reach—maybe only slight reach depending how your scores come out. You really should look at Middlebury which has an International Studies major, international politics and excellent language programs. American should be a good safety and George Washington maybe a match. Tufts is usually mentioned for IR too.

Whether something is a safety or a reach for you may also depend on whether you need aid to attend. University of Mississippi’s selective Croft institute for international studies has a similar approach to Tuft’s program at a fraction of the cost. They are very generous with merit aid.

thanks! Yes I will definitely need financial aid. I looked into Tuft but then I visited Boston in the winter and changed my mind:)
