I can't pick any safeties!! I have one safety that I'm already accepted to that I would truly be happy with, but I feel like I need at least 2/3 more, just in case.

What is a safety for an URM with 2250 SAT, top 3% rank, pretty good ECs (plus job), and (most likely) Natl. Hispanic Merit Scholar? Any advice would be appreciated, so far my only safety is UT-Austin, but I'm not really looking to go to school in Texas.

It's easy to pick reaches...that's for sure.
But safeties? I need some help!

You need to give more info about what kinda school you want!
Michgan state, oklahoma state, tulsa, u of houston, Bradley University, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Arizona state would all shower you with $$$ for the National hispanic status. Many schools would give allot of cash to a national hispanic scholar.

You are already accepted at a school you are truly happy with. That is the definition of a safety school. Why do you think you need more? Are you dating the daughter of that college's president, and are worried that you're a missed curfew or a torn dress away from having your acceptance revoked?

If you still think you need safeties, here are a few:

Large: Indiana U, Bloominton. gorgeous campus, wonderful non-arrogant faculty, bigtime sports, perfect/clean/safe college town, big social/Greek scene, relatively mild climate for a Northern school.

haha, no, tourguide, firstly i am a girl (and not dating anybodys daughter) and secondly i am into UT-Austin because of the Texas top 10% rule.

maybe i should re-phrase my question. i would like to have at least one or two other schools not in Texas that i have a 99.9% chance of being admitted at.

also, any suggestions for match schools would be really helpful.

again....what kind of school do you like? What size schools? what kind of atmosphere? urban or rural? what might you major in? do you want a top-50 school as a safty or a place that will give you a ton of money safty?

I have plenty of reaches on my list...but I would like to add one top 50 school that I could probably get into and one state school that would/might give me substantial merit-based aid. I qualify for need-based, so if I am accepted to one of the top elites, then financial aid won't be so much of a concern, but a school that might offer merit-based would be good to add to the list.

I'd like schools somewhere on the East Coast (anywhere from Maine to Florida though), in areas that aren't too urban and aren't too rural. Can anybody think of a safety for me that fits that?

Boston University is "too urban." You'd be pretty close to a lock at U of Vermont, Wake Forest, Lehigh, Lafayette, Syracuse. VATech, U of Miami, Boston College, Penn State, Villanova, North Carolina State, U of Rochester, Davidson, and American U, Connecticut College. I agree with cjhss that Maryland would be good. None of these is real urban or real rural.

Not too urban or rural matches: Emory, U of N Carolina, Virginia, Tufts, Haverford, Georgetown.

A URM with 2250 shouldn't have to "settle" for anything she doesn't want. So apply to as many of the very top schools as you can...you've got a shot at all of them.

Shouldn't my list be comprised mostly of matches though? What qualifies a school as a match? I know you can look in guidebooks for mid 50% SAT scores and things but the fact that I'm URM and other things doesn't really help me with choosing matches based on SAT and GPA mid-scores. Thanks for the help, Tourguide, can anybody else help me pick some matches?

Also, how long should be list be? I was planning on applying to 2 safeties, 2 matches, and 5 reaches, since I'm pretty happy with one of my safeties. Is that too many schools? I need to apply to a variety so I can compare financial aid packages...am I thinking of too many reaches?
