Help me choose what school i should go to!

I have to decide in literally just a few days and i am completely stuck! I would really appreciate any and all advice!

I am between:
Virginia Tech University
Clemson University
California Polytech University in San Luis Obispo
Trinity University (San antonio)

I am interested in architecture however at the time I applied i was unsure whether i wanted to commit myself 100% so I applied undecided. That was a bad idea since i have decided now that is what i want to do and it is nearly impossible to transfer over to such a selective program.

Trinity University does not offer Architecture, however they have given me a $16,000 a year scholarship. I like the university and its size, however I feel that if i attend i might feel like i deprived myself by not giving myself a chance at architecture.

However, Clemson and Virginia tech told me that its nearly impossible to transfer into that major...I dont know if i should ignore what they are saying, or just take them off my list. Word for word: "I’m afraid we will not be entertaining any change requests for restricted majors, like architecture, until after May 15. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that even after that date we will be able to change anyone into a restricted major"

I am in the architecture major at cal polytech. However, the only problem i have with the school is that it is SO FAR AWAY from where i would like to be (southeast). And i have never visited it, which is very scary!

Clemson University i am on the waitlist, and i won't find out until mid may. Should i stay on their waitlist? Should i put a deposit down on another university and wait? I am so so so confused! Please help!

Sit down with your parents and run the numbers through this calculator. Then talk about whether or not any of these are affordable. How much scholarship money you got from one place is meaningless without knowing all of the other financial aspects: [FinAid | Calculators | Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Award Letter Requirements - Finaid)

Architecture is a “restricted” major at many universities. Except for students who are coming from community colleges that have formal articulation agreements, it is indeed all but impossible to transfer into most Architecture programs. You may want to take a Gap Year, and apply to only Architecture programs for admission in fall 2012.

If Clemson is where you really want to be, put a deposit at your second choice, and stay on the waiting list for Clemson.

I have to agree with the gap year idea. If architecture is now what you really want to do, then you need to wait until next year (or maybe January, if the school allows mid year admits) and apply directly into architecture programs.

Cal Poly’s architecture program is very prestigious. Congratulations! It is a beautiful school and everyone I know who goes there loves it. You will love the weather, too! Go out of your comfort zone - you won’t regret it. I say this as someone who moved from the east coast to CA. I wouldn’t say that about just any Cal State, but CalPoly SLO is special and I truly believe you will be happy there. The only person who might not be happy is maybe somebody who wants the action of a big city. SLO is a college town.

This is a tough idea, I would say Cal Poly since it will allow you to pursue architecture. Or maybe you can spend a year somewhere and then transfer into a school with architecture?

I don’t think the OP should take a gap year if he got into Cal Poly. That school is very well regarded, in general and the Arch program is one of the outstanding departments. It is a great location as far as sunning natural beauty, beaches, and outdoor activities. And as far as being a college town. The school, and the town are very California casual, without the glitz factor of the LA or SF scenes. It’s a great place for bike riding. On Thursdays SLO has the downtown Farmer’s Market where everyone goes for music, BBQ and veggies.

You will get to visit Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Santa Barbara on breaks and long weekends, not often but it’s accessable and you will meet friends from those cities. I’m a big fan of the away experience. It’s a really protected way to get to know another part of the country.

Cal poly slo, the last thing you want is to go to a school and NOT be able to get into the program that is your reason for going.

Help ?
