Help me choose which college.....and the better deal....

Now that I have been rejected from Brown, JHU, and Swarthmore, I can move on with my decision making. I'm still waiting to hear on one more - Colgate. Here is my acceptances:

Rutgers - New Brunswick (6k/year out of 19k tuition)
Muhlenberg (10.5k/year out of 43kish)
Gettysburg (13.5k/year out of 43kish)
Bucknell (not notified of aid yet)
Lehigh (3.5k loan for 47k tuition)

I want to major in Physics. Lehigh is my top choice, but I am getting no money, making it 5x more expensive than Rutgers, my state school. Is it worth it?

Also, does anyone know the quality of the Gettysburg science/physics departments?

Go for Rutgers. Paying five times at much at Lehigh does not make up for there relatively cheap tuition and diverse options and people you'll encounter at Rutgers. Lehigh is still a good school so if your heart is set on it, go there, but if there is any doubt I would go for Rutgers at least for now.

well--i loved bucknell and colgate. if you only got 3.5k in loans at lehigh, you'll probably get the same at bucknell and colgate (cost about the same).

I would probably go to bucknell then colgate cause i think they're the nicests off all the schools you have listed there. But if you just want value you'd probably have to go to rutgers--even though i despise the place.

I know the smart choice is to obviously go to Rutgers, but I really don't want to go there. Since I'm in NJ, like 10% of our graduating class usually ends up there. And with people getting in that are like 150 ranks behind me, I kind of feel jipped if I go there. I don't want to come off as a prestige obsessed person or anything though.

Bump, 10char

I assume you'll be at the Honors Program at Rutgers. You'll meet lots of smart people here, and there are many, many more people not in the honors program that are smart as well. There are more opportunities at Rutgers for research than at the other schools you have options of. Also, you'll have a wider array of course options here than in smaller schools. If you have specific questions about academics, social life, or anything, you can ask.

I wouldn't be in the honors program, I never got invited because I didn't submit SAT scores (only ACT).

Well, like I said there are still plenty of other smart people at Rutgers, of course, like yourself. You can also get accepted to the honors program after one year if you maintain a 3.8 (although that's not such an easy feat).

Another thing to consider - on Friday, I got accepted into Colgate (but with no aid).
