Help Me Choose!

I just applied to the University of Richmond EDII but its kind of a long shot. These are the other colleges I'm applying to. What's the best school overall on this list?

Rhodes College
Denison University
Dickinson College
Franklin & Marshall College
Gettysburg College
Union College
Kalamazoo College
University of Vermont

I have heard great things about all of them & have known kids who have attended!

UVM has such a nice location in Burlington, too, great college town.

F & M & Rhodes are probably the two most rigorous ones, academically speaking.
Union has a reputation of being “Fratty”.

You have a great list, best of luck in your college search.

You have some great schools on this list. I’m in NoVA and am very familiar with U. of Richmond --great school, supposedly a strong greek scene, good academics.

I’m only going to write what I know, so there will be blanks by the others in the list:

Rhodes College
Denison University -great option. you’d have similar U of R types of students. Beautiful campus and town (my son just appllied too).
Dickinson College
Franklin & Marshall College
Gettysburg College
Union College
Kalamazoo College–much more of a liberal student body than U. of R–good school
University of Vermont --very liberal too.

UVM, no football team, most students are from OOS!

You do have some fantastic schools on your list!

Only you can decide where you will make your home for 4 years of your life!

I visited a couple of your schools with my son. His opinion would be:

 1. Dickinson. Great kids, serious about their studies. Great abroad program. He really started to love Dickinson.
 2. Union. new science building, somewhat of a jock school, which he didn’t want
 3. UVM. Like a city school in the country. Student appeared to take their studies seriously. Nice college town
 4. F&M. My son loved the campus, but thought it had too many jocks. I didn’t agree and would put F&M either 2 or 3 on the list.
 5. Gettysburg. Neither of us liked Gettysburg. Campus was not well taken care of and the students did not seem very interested in their studies

My son is going to Skidmore. Another school he liked not on your list is Hobart.

Hope this helps

Thank you all! It’s helpful to have a new perspective. I just got admitted into Rhodes, which is great, but I was thumbing through F & M’s course catalogue and I was really impressed. I hope I get in it seems like an incredible school!

I think Gettysburg is a beautiful school and very well maintained. They have a brand new athletic facility and new gym. The science building is nice and the library is the nicest I have seen.

What is your major?

Right now I’m undecided about a major but I’m interested in political science and economics
