There are only about two weeks left until this dreaded college decision. I have two colleges in mind: Miami University in Ohio and University of Iowa. I’d like to major in finance and both schools have excellent business schools. At Iowa I was directly admitted to the business schools and at Miami I have to transfer in by only getting a 3.5 (already met other requirements). I really liked the campus visit at Miami and think i’d enjoy my time there a little more than at Iowa. What should I do?
- Pick a direct admission over a transfer...any day. Even if a few months down the line you have a change of heart and don't want to study business, you will still have a back up as you look toward another major. You'll have a higher chance of graduating within 4 years, and a better GPA as you'll have streamlined path through courses. There is no uncertainty with UofI.
- You will be living on/near campus for 4 years! The location and environment is definitely a huge factor. If Iowa is what feels right, then go for it.
- Call or e-mail both schools about some aid. If you're really stuck between the two, some financial aid might sweeten the pot for one school. At any rate, it's worth a try.
From everything you’ve written, I’d say Iowa is right for you…
I really just like the feel and campus better at miami than at Iowa. Also, the prestige and everything associated with Miami Business is a big factor in my thought process. Do you guys have any input?
