Help me choose!

Between UCSD and UCSB. I'm pretty sure i'm going to SD but i just wanted to make sure that it is the right decision. I honestly don't know much about either college. Anyone have any input, maybe some positives/negatives about each? Anyone else in my shoes? My major is Chemistry

Thanks!

Oh and screw UCLA haha

don’t really know much about SB but I do know that the area around SD is really nice and I hear lots of nice things about the school. I was perfectly happy with going to SD in case I didn’t get into UCLA and I think most people should too, it’s a good school.

^ Exactly. If I didn’t get in to UCLA, I would have loved going to UCSD. I LOVE the campus, it’s really clean, and very nice. It’s an amazing school, too. Best of luck!

Thanks for the input. I’m 90% sure im heading to UCSD now

you should prolly look into UCSB’s chem program, I know that their chemical engineering is one of the best in the nation, so it would make me think that they would have a pretty legit chem program as well.

Sorry for intruding into your post but help me choose too! lol

LA or SD? thing is, my major at sd is communication and la is asian american studies (i was scared i wouldnt get in anywhere and picked the easiest, semi-interesting major)

I’m actually in the UCSB camp. It’s a beautiful school on the beach. The students there are social and fun. Parties there are great. On the other hand, I hear a number of complaints about UCSD’s social life.

A lot of people on here will mention the prestige difference between UCSB and UCSD as a factor, but I really don’t think the difference is significant enough to warrant serious consideration. Hardly anyone realizes that UCSD is higher ranked than UCSB, for example. I would expect job opportunities to be the same graduating from either school.

Have you visited both schools?

UCSD! 10char

@arrowheadd: go with whichever major, you truly want to be in, remember ull be spending the next 2+yrs studying it, so make sure it’s something u want.

@arrowhead, jump right in haha

@arcade, no i havent visited either but i have been around UCSD campus and the area is ridiculously nice. The one thing i’m worrying about is UCSD’s social life. I know if i go to UCSD i am passing up the very best in partying schools hah

if u think UCSD is nice, ull be blown away by UCSB hahaha

What even draws you to UCSD? I’ve never visited. You really ought to go check out UCSB before making a decision. I’ve had only extremely positive experiences there. I have a few friends up there, and have spent several weekends hanging out. I’ve NEVER not had fun, haha.

Maybe i should try and visit both campuses

I guess the reason i’m thinking UCSD > UCSB right now is because UCSD is a better all around school, and i would like to be in the San Diego area? And i’m thinking UCSB might be a little too fake for me. I’m cool with all the partying but i’m not sure i want to be around a bunch of wannabe pretty boys with popped collars hah. I’m stereotyping hardcore i know…

^ lol good ****. idk i BRIEFLY visited both campuses, and in terms of looks i personally think SD looks better. but yea i dont know much about the social scene

Ugh I’m in the same situation right now, but with SD and LA. Go to SD. Great for engineering.

“I guess the reason i’m thinking UCSD > UCSB right now is because UCSD is a better all around school”

well I’m not sure what you mean by that. The way I’d see it is this:

Academics: UCSD (I don’t necessarily agree with this, but it’s slightly higher ranked. Really, it’s just probably more stressful.)
Social life: UCSB
Environment: UCSB (it’s a beach!)
Student intelligence: No difference
Hotter chicks/guys/whatever you’re into: this one’s just obvious

Anyways, just giving the other side of the coin. Go check it out, then make a decision!

^ i agree with arcadefire1027

UCSD is also on the beach. But i agree with everything you’re saying. I definitely need to check both out
