Help me cut down my list

I am currently a freshman at Trinity College in Hartford CT, and unfortunately what I was looking for in a school last November when filling out my freshman applications has changed dramatically. Graduating from a high school class of 60, I figured I would be most comfortable retaining that small school atmosphere, (Rej ED williams, accepted lafayette, bucknell, colby,) yet I feel it is time to move on to a larger institution. Additionally, I had no idea what I was looking to study. Having taken a number of diverse courses first semester within the liberal arts framework, I have come to the conclusion that I would love a program combining elements of sociology, philosophy, and economics, providing a more focused approach on labor economics specifically. Or alternatively a focused business program. Also, I am very unhappy with the Hartford area and despite finding my niche do not particularly care for the overall homogeneity on campus. All things considered, I would do anything right now to get out of Hartford.
Stats:

High School W/UW 4.1/3.9
Rank 3/60
SAT 1 M/V/W: 650/650/720
SAT 2 US Hist/Math 1 C: 680, 720.
*Essays and interviews were the strongest section of my application.

EC's (All 4 years)
Model UN (Held leadership/administrative positions JR, SR year.
Varsity Hockey (Captain JR, SR yr)
Varsity Golf
Editor/Writer for our news publication.
various community service
Worked 20 Hours a week.

Trinity:
Current semester projected GPA is approximately 3.7-3.9
EC's College democrats, Amnesty International, CONNPIRG, Habitat for Humanity, Intramural Ice Hockey.
-I have developed some phenomenal relationships with my professors who are more than willing to write strong recomendations for me.

I am considering (In order of preference)

Cornell
G-Town
Emory
Tufts
Brown
Upenn
Harvard(Multiple Legacies/Relatives in admissions and regional interview program)
Dartmouth?
Colgate
Hamilton?
Wesleyan?

.....open to any other match/reach suggestions, I'd like to cut the list down to about 6 or 7, yet at the same time I'd like to afford myself enough opportunities to ensure I wont have to return to Trinity next year.

Other:
White, Jewish, Not requesting financial aid, New York resident moving to Rhode Island in January, waitlisted at Cornell CAS, Colgate and Tufts last year.

Well...I guess if you're going to break down your list, you should be familiar with the acceptance rates (and general correlation in your chances) at each school:

Cornell CAS - 8%
G-Town - 25%?
Emory - 50%
Tufts - 12%?
Brown - 8%
UPenn - 12%
Harvard - 8%
Dartmouth - 12%
Colgate -15%
Hamilton - ?
Wes - 40%

So if you want to be sure to get out of Hartford, don't put only the most difficult schools on your list. You do need one safety - unless Trinity is your safety. Even with its high transfer rate, Emory isn't quite a safety due to its competitiveness.

I think you should realistically keep 5 reaches, 2 matches, and Trinity (obviously):

So maybe:

Cornell (R)
G-Town (R)
Emory (M)
Tufts (R)
Brown (R)
Wesleyan (M)
Harvard (R)

It would be Cornell ILR, not CAS. I appologize for the ambiguity.

That's good since ILR has a much higher acceptance rate - I think like 50%.

Emory
Tufts
Harvard(Multiple Legacies/Relatives in admissions and regional interview program)
Colgate
Hamilton?

If i were you, I would apply to those, especially Harvard :D

Give me some scissors :D

At most, 4-5 schools should be sufficient. You listed 11. Apply to the schools you like the most and that have reasonable accept rates.

I would do:

Cornell ILR
G-Town
Emory
Upenn
Harvard (Multiple Legacies/Relatives in admissions and regional interview program)
Wesleyan

They're all different enough and have reasonable enough accept rates. (Harvard being the notable exception, but you have all those ties to it.)

Thanks for the prompt responses, all things considered, do I even have a shot at any of those with my test scores? And regarding the number of schools, I guess I am viewing my application process through the lens that the more I apply to, the greater the probability I'll get into at least one ultra competitve school. Also, G-Town would be to Mcdonough if that makes a difference.

Get at least a 3.7 and write absolutely perfect essays (re-do them over a few times just to be sure) and I'd say you have a great shot for ILR. I really have to say that if you're looking for "a program combining elements of sociology, philosophy, and economics, providing a more focused approach on labor economics specifically" then ILR should be the uncontested first spot on your list. If you must have backups, Ivyleaf's list looks quite solid.

It certainly is, I've been drooling over the ILR program ever since I recognized my true interests. I should have no problem articulating why ILR would be a perfect fit, and have already been in contact back and forth with ILR admissions so hopefully a demonstrated interest will help me in the long run.

"And regarding the number of schools, I guess I am viewing my application process through the lens that the more I apply to, the greater the probability I'll get into at least one ultra competitve school."

This is true, but if you apply to a range of schools--w/some having pretty generous accept rates (Wesleyan, Emory, G-town, for example)--you stand a good shot as well and aren't just basically applying excessively.

If you know what you want to study, you should be looking at schools that offer that program or something roughly equal (which should narrow your list anyway).

I believe it does. McDonough is arguably the easiest college within Georgetown to be accepted into.

Seriously? Hey, did anyone ever find those Gtown transfer stats?

I did and I posted them on that thread. The acceptance rate for 05 was around 30% with an average SAT around 1330 old scale; GPA was something like 3.8~

Stay away from McDonough. It's mine.

Just kidding^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ :D

But seriously. Stay away.

=) It's all yours. As long as you ease your way out Chicago's door!

LOL. Trust me, you do not have to worry about me taking your spot at Chicago, or anywhere for that matter. However, I do have to worry about you taking mine, so leave that extra spot for me at G-Town, just in case ;)

no worries, hopefully I'll hear from ILR early so I can withdraw the rest of my aps and not steal your spot haha.

SPOTS FOR EVERYONE! It's Christmas (or should I say 'Holiday') for everyone!

Cavs i'm not worried about you....

I kid! I kid! :D
