Deadlines are approaching quickly! My CommonApp essay is 750 words, and I'd like to cut it down a bit, if possible. Lend me a hand! General critique is, of course, welcome.

there is nothing wrong with 750 words :

^ except that it doesn't follow directions. I mean, I've heard of plenty of people getting in with longer ones, but it's risky. They say 500 words, and they want 500 words.

not all schools. I've talked to several admissions counselors, and professionals in the field who say if your essay is captivating, 250 extra words will be nothing because the reader will focus more on what your saying than how you're saying it. Not what you're looking for I'm sure, but if you want to cut it down, do it line by line. Delete extraneous words. i.e. "She handed me a black purse." delete black, it's not important. There you go. Do that 200 times. Bingo. 500 words.

And I would edit but I am applying to several of the same schools you are so that might be a conflict of interest.

ill try to help, send it over.

oh i didnt realize it had to be 500 ..nvm
