Hmmm. Sure. You can be my statistician anyday. ;)

That's pretty awesome. I love Philosophy and the New Pornographers. I'd say that one influenced the other but I don't know which came first.

massromantic- Go with what your gut feels. I absolutely LOVE UCLA also. UCLA athletics are the main hobby of my life; they have been since I was 8 years old. However, after seeing Stanford for myself, listening to the faculty and interacting with the students, I realized that it was a place I could not turn down.

The Bruins will always be #1 in my heart, but Stanford is a really, really special place. You sound a lot like a girl that I met at admit weekend (maybe it was you?) who really wanted to go to UCLA.

But yeah, especially for your major, going to UCLA will not kill you. UCLA is an amazing place in its own right, Stanford is the only school I would turn it down for. Do you what you feel is right. It's your decision and I'm sure you're going to be happy and successful wherever you go, though. Not to put more pressure on you, but I really do think you will one day regret turning down Stanford, if you choose to do so.

Best of luck with your decision.

jackieboy24, were you in otero by any chance? I recall talking to someone who was deciding between Stanford and UCLA who really liked UCLA but I think by the end of the weekend might have changed his mind...

i was in Trancos... maybe we had this conversation at Wilbur? Or maybe we never had the conversation at all haha.

go where you want. i know many people who made this decision (one went to Gunn and decided to go to Cal instead) and it turned out fine (accepted to MIT, Carnegie-Mellon, Johns Hopkins, etc. for bioengineering grad). a change of scenery is important for college. if you're good enough to get into Stanford, you shouldn't have a problem finding great opportunities at LA and Cal. In making my decision (Cal vs. Stanford) a stanford alumni who did undergrad & 2 PhDs there (maybe he's biased because he's currently living in Berk) said it's basically the same education for a whole lot more money...Don't go to a school just because of the prestige factor. I actually buy into the logic that if you can succeed at Stanford (enough to get all the great opps ppl are saying are the best things abt Stanford), you can also succeed at LA. (Btw, I am choosing Stanford, but for more personal reasons...sigh...I'm still sad about not going to Cal though. Very sad.)
