<p>so basically heres the scoop~
these past few weeks ive been getting acceptance letters back
and im at a crossroad between a few schools
i plan to major in business, however im undecided whether wat kind of business i will be doing
these are the schools</p>
<p>Accepted:
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor (waiting on decision for Ross, but i heard its really difficult to get in)
Northeastern University
University of Maryland- College Park</p>
<p>Rejected:
NYU- Stern</p>
<p>Deferred:
SUNY Binghamton (i guarantee ill get in though... i think it was a matter of room)</p>
<p>Waiting:
Penn State (pretty sure ill get in)
Boston University (pretty sure ill get in)
Carnegie Mellon (its a coin flip, im goin on legacy, but a really tough school to get into)</p>
<p>I've done a lot of researching on which schools i wanted to apply to and then i went through a few lists of rankings
I dont want to jump to conclusions, that michigan is the best for business in that list, but i feel it would be a waste if i didnt consider the other schools since michigan was the first acceptance letter i got back i feel as if i laid off the other 7 schools that i applied to (thus wasting like $500 on application fees)
but if michigan really is the best and where ill get the best education then ill accept the fact and accept my decision</p>
<p>give me some feedback guys, id like to hear from the CC community
which would you choose and wat are the pros and cons
climate isnt a factor, since i already took that into consideration when applying for my schools, nor is tuition a factor
i understand binghamton is a great deal for its quality of education but that was my safety (ironic how i got deferred from my safety and accepted to my #1 choice UM, :P)</p>
<p>strange acceptances this year, huh? UMich is sooo expensive OOS, but it is the best school of your choices....i guess you'll major in econ? then, if u are admitted to Bing, you can decide then......you're very fortunate that Umich doesn't unweigh NY kids GPA's (and that they could care less about SAT/ACT scores)....</p>
<p>CMU first, Michigan second IMO. If you got rejected from Stern I doubt you'll be a Ross direct admit, but it rally doesn't matter if you get a decent GPA freshmen year.</p>
<p>yea, i was kind of choosing among the knowns v unknowns.....if u include CMU then i agree w hmom.....honestly,though, i think that CMU will be a reach with SAT score....sorry about the lower case....only have one hand available (i know it annoys some people)</p>
<p>even if you dont get in preferred admit to ross, i would still say michigan. Most of the students in Ross don't get in as pre-frosh (they really only accept about 100 kids that all have connections... yes a generalization but overall true). Just do well during your first year at Michigan.</p>
<p>i didnt apply for financial aid, since im not eligible (according to my parents)
as for CMU, my brother (graduated '06) got in with 1270 (on 2 part), and i got a 1260 on two part, however everything else is strong
96 unweighted gpa
all honors/accel/AP student
president of some clubs
sports for 9seasons
violin for 9 years
hard course load for senior year, and im keepin my grades up
i do community service outside of school
and i have a job
and lastly, im riding on legacy </p>
<p>soooooooooooooo back to the topic, everyone agrees its between michigan and cmu then?
supposedly i dont get into ross school for all 4 years
and i dont get into cmu, going to michigan will still be better than more other choices?(bu,umcp, penn state, northeastern, bing)?
when i told my bro that i cud prob get a better education at another school (which i cud be wrong, and reason i say this is because if i dont go to ross, i can only take economics)
his reply was "regardless, graduating from michigan with a degree will look better than any of your other choices"</p>
<p>If you get into Carnegie Mellon, I'd definitely go w/ CMU. Although Ross is a bit better than Tepper, CMU is definitely better than UMich for the rest of your core education. </p>
<p>I guess location-wise also matters. Personally, I'd rather live in Pitt than Michigan.</p>
<p>By legacy do you mean your brother? Or do you have a parent/grandparent who attended as a sibling will not make you a legacy. Also, keep in mind that since your brother applied in 2002, the average stats at all good schools have gone way up.</p>
<p>Well you don't get into Ross for 4 full years. It is preferred admissions where you are still in whatever school you were accepted to and you need to satisfy some prerequisites. I know one of them is at least a 3.3 GPA.</p>
<p>CMU is definitely better than Michigan for your core education? Where do you get off with that nonsense? They are peers. Ann Arbor is definitely a better environment to spend four years of college than Pittsburgh and Ross has a BRAND NEW facility that is state of the art. I'm sure that if you do well in your freshman year you'll get into Ross.</p>

<p>I have no idea what that's about, but my brother just got into Ross direct admit from OOS, no connections and no one from our family has ever attended Michigan...</p>
