Hey guys!
I’m a prospective transfer applicant to Cornell’s SHA Hotel School and plan on applying either for Spring of 2021 or Fall of 2022. I’m currently a Freshman at Fordham University, majoring in Digital Technology and Emerging Media. While waiting for them to respond to my e-mail, I figured I might as well post one of my questions here.
The External Transfer Applicant Website, specifically in the Admission Requirement, states Math or quantitative courses, including a minimum of pre-calculus taken in either high school or college.
My question is, do you think a college-level Finite Mathematics will fulfill the minimum pre-calculus requirement? Or would a course like Applied Calculus be preferable? I am asking because I had not taken pre-calculus or calculus-related courses in High School and instead took the Statistics route.
I also still have the option to pick between Finite/ Applied Calculus 1 since I plan on taking these courses in the summer-- to fulfill Fordham’s Mathematics Reasoning core requirement. **Pre-Calculus is also an option, but it won’t fulfill the core req since it’s a course designed to help students enter a higher Calculus course-- which is why Applied Calculus and Finite are my two preferable options.
Please help me decide because I’m not sure how worth it this is.
- I don’t want to pay for a course (Pre-Calc) just for the sake of Transferring because it is gambling and a waste of money and time.
- I am not a maths person, so the idea of Applied Calculus scares me.
- I’m leaning towards Finite since it is more practical for my interest (hospitality/media). But afraid that it won’t cut the admission requirement of Pre-Calc for Cornell.
Please let me know what you think! Thanks!
