Help Me Decide: Sony Vaio vs. Macbook Pro

What’s up with resurrecting a 4 year old thread?

Anyways, if you are tech illiterate, a Mac is the way to go. I mean, really, if you’re in that position you won’t know better or the difference, so you’ll get a salesperson telling you you’re getting “a great deal” and you won’t even know if he’s lying to your face.

A Mac basically says:
A) I don’t know anything about computers, or how to use one correctly
B) My line of work requires me to use a Mac
C) I get my advice from the advertising world

Definitely go with the Macbook! I’m such a PC girl that I didn’t even consider looking at Macs…but I also would never buy a Vaio because they cost so much more than any other computer with the same specs and really aren’t special in any way. At least Macs have a very stable OS and very rarely get viruses. So if I had to choose between a Vaio and a Mac, I would choose the Mac, no questions asked!

any one work with mixing music or is a DJ? which do you perfer?

I don’t mix music, but I know my way around some music editing programs (ACID, Ableton, Cubase etc.), and I have to say that Logic is the best thing that’s ever happened to anyone. Sure, garageband is fine for twiddling, but for a serious musician, Logic has always been the most impressive software, filled with loads of preset stompboxes and amps. Although I don’t have logic, I’ve done a recording project on it with a friend, and it was beautiful, even without any outside VST programs. So yeah, get a mac for logic.

And also, I was wondering why a 1 mem 80 gig laptop was so expensive…and then saw this was in 2006.

I love my Vaio and I got a great deal. I can’t say the same of you, however.

Yeah, one of my friends was telling me the other day about how there are more viruses targeted at PCs because there are a ton more PCs than Macs. Just in general, your chances of catching a virus with a Mac relative to a PC are slim to none

There’s not that big of difference in the pricing, really, when you consider that you’re getting a free Ipod and printer with MBP. Btw, I’ve never needed any of that software with my Macbook, and if there was a chance I did I could just use the school’s computer. But that might have happened like…once.

Consider this: buy the computer that’s going to last you longer. I don’t have a problem paying a little more for a computer that’s going to be better quality because I know I’m going to be using this computer for hours at a time, day after day. You’re going to want your money to be worth it, in the long run. This is a major investment, so invest your money wisely.

Don’t buy a macbook. If you aren’t stupid you won’t need to worry about viruses

^^ if you’re a male college student, viruses from porn are a given
