Help Me Decide! Stevens IT vs NYU Tandon

I’m torn between these two schools. Please help me choose. Feel free to comment.

Stevens IT:
Rank- #35 Computer Engineering
Estimated Financial Cost- $35k (including room and board)
Pros- Reputable Engineering School, networking
Cons- not too well known, Price

NYU Tandon SoE:
Rank- #32
Estimated Financial Cost- $25k (including room and board)
Pros- Carries NYU name, formerly a reputable engineering school
Cons- Lots of negative reviews from current students

My major in both of these schools would be computer engineering

Are you instate or OOS?

Stevens is very well known in engineering circles. So you are not correct. Stevens location is vastly better than NYU.

In this case Stevens is the better choice. Money part you have to decide. Caveat with Stevens is gender balance and social drawbacks.

@jhsiao I live in NJ, but regardless I would be dorming at both schools

Stevens is definitely well known in Engineering circles! You see they are ranked similiarly…

Are both ABET accredited?
Look at what graduates do after they graduate.
Look more into what the complaints the students have. What do they say?
Have you gone to admitted student’s day?

I would make a spreadsheet and include info like:

Net Cost
Number of Undergraduates
Faculty Student Ratio
%of students that live on campus
How big is the department for your major? If you are majoring in something that only has a couple of professors, that does not bode well.
Housing- do they offer all 4 years? freshman only?
Urban/rural/suburban
Is this a commuter school? (do students go home on weekends)
Surrounding area - what is the nearby town/amenities like?
Transportation - how would you get home
AP Credits - can you get credit for AP tests you have taken
Male/Female ration
Greek life - what % of students are in greek life
Parking
Diversity
Safety
Sports
Jobs - what happens to seniors after they graduate
Internships - depending on your major, is it easy to get internships?
…and whatever makes sense for you

You might not care about, say, greek life. but if 50% of the kids are in greek life and you don’t want to be, that is something to know. Or you may want a big time sports scene or you might not want one. Grade them from 1-5 as they make sense to you.

Then look at each of them and see which makes sense for you

Ive heard its cheaper to attend Stevens and you still get access to NYU’s career services through some programs.

@artgat765 : Stevens is not related to nyu. Nyu Tandon students have access nyu career services, not Stevens students.

@student1676 : have you visited those campuses, attended classes ?

@MYOS1634 Oh i’m sorry. I was referring to their dual degree program (between stevens and NYU) but I just found out that it no longer exists. Sorry.

I’d say NYU Tandon.
