I just got accepted to both but now I'm stuck between which to attend. I plan on going for engineering (biomedical, civil, or aerospace... still deciding). The problem is that my parents aren't helping me pay at all and I won't have a car. My boyfriend will be going to UCF so if I go there I'll have a place to stay (his parents are paying for everything), a mode of transportation, and I'll be happy. (we get along amazingly... We'll probably still date regardless of where I go) I also have a scholarship for UCF so it'll be cheaper. I know UF is a better school though and I think I would do biomedical engineering for sure if I went there. I would have to take out student loans and such if I went there though and the whole long distance relationship thing might get hard. I really want to go to UF but I'm not sure if it's worth it since money is an issue and my happiness won't be the same as if I go to UCF. Does it even matter that much for a bachelor's?

What if you and your boyfriend break up? Or what if he cheats on you and you feel pressured to stay in the relationship just to have a place to live?

I think it is a very, very bad idea to assume that at 18 yo, you and your boyfriend will have a lasting relationship and to count on that for a place to live in college.

I think you should make the decision on UCF vs. UF solely on the quality of the education and whether or not you can afford it. The issue of having loans vs. not having loans is huge, but it depends on how much money will need to be borrowed.

If you will only need to borrow $25k or less to go to UF for 4 years, I would go with UF since it is a better school. But if you would need to borrow more than $25k, that starts to be a lot of money to have to pay back and at that point, I would consider UCF.

Do not make a decision on college based on a boyfriend who may not even be your boyfriend a year from now.

Those are prophetic words HarrietH. My oldest daughter went to FSU because of friends. She wanted out of FSU as soon as possible, as she didnt like the school and the friends turned out to be trouble. She transfered to UF at 60 credits, graduated with a 4.0 in biochemistry, and is now set to graduate from law school at the Univ of Chicago in June. Go to the school that you are most compatible with from a community and academic perspective.

Go to the school in which you will more easily flourish. I chose UF. My brother chose UCF Honors.

Try to think which you like better - tradition and prestige or cutting edge dark horse.

Now most people would probably choose UF due to superior academics, but in reality you can do extremely well from either school.
