Hello my name is Sam and I am a high school junior at a competitive private high school...I loved Dickinson College and Union College when I visited, but I can't decide between the two. I am very interested in studying spanish probably with business, if that helps...Btw my counselor that these are my matches...

My oldest daughter is a junior at Dickinson, and loves it. Some differences that I am aware of:

Union is on a trimester program. So you have 3 shorter terms a year, and take only 3 classes each term. Some students really like this (we looked at Union for my younger daughter because of this). It does mean you get out later in the spring than other colleges, which can make the summer job search difficult.

Union has a reputation for a stronger drinking culture than Dickinson. Not that there isn’t drinking at D’son, but Union has a stronger reputation for it. As the Fiske Guide to Colleges says about Union, “the Greeks dominate”.

Fiske shows Union as having a strong “Modern Languages” program, but I am not sure if that means Spanish. It also shows Dickinson as strong in foreign languages. Dickinson has very good study abroad options; this was important to my daughter, so we visited the study abroad office on every one of her campus visits. You will surely be able to study abroad in a Spanish speaking country, taking classes in Spanish through D’son.

Neither college offers a business major. Union has some business-related majors (Managerial Economics, Entrepreneurship, Econ). Dickinson has Economics and International Business.
