i think umichigan is more of a reach than UNC, your best bet at michigan is probably to apply to their econ program (which is also outstanding but not as competitive for admission as their business program) if your goal is just to have a career in business, not necessarily major in it.

same thing for UIUC.. might want to apply to arts and sciences economics.

but i heard some say that econ programm in umichigan is competitve..

it is, it's a very strong program, just not as competitive as ross will be (ross is one of the premier business schools in the world)

also is it possible to apply to arts and sciences and transfer to others?
[/quote]
this is a question that has to be answered by someone more familiar with the individual schools, or you can probably look it up on their websites. i know at some schools (such as indiana university) this is possibly and also minimally difficult, but at some other schools (such as NYU) it is not allowed.

i'm really not very familiar with international admissions, or if they differ from regular admissions, but i would definitely say to apply, i think you have a shot at any of those universities

UMich is not more of a reach than UNC, the other poster doesn't know about the quotas set at UNC for OOS students. UNC's OOS acceptance rate is 18% because 82% of the freshman class is reserved for in-state students. Michigan is significantly easier to get into than UNC OOS.

That said, both will be reaches, Michigan to a much smaller extent.

Likely rejected:
-UMichigan
-UNC

Getting in (matches):
-U Wisconsin - might get deferred if you don't send in recommendations
-U Maryland
-Boston U
-UIUC
-UWashington

(safeties):
-Northeastern U
-PSU
-Purdue
-SUNY Buffalo

UNC - you have literally no chance of getting in. Try to transfer in where residency isn't a consideration in admissions. You would have a better chance at Cornell than UNC.

Michigan is all about your GPA. Your's is low. You could potentially wait until your first semester grades come out, do well, raise your GPA, and then apply. Raising the test score would be beneficial as well to offset the low GPA, but as of now you don't have the stats they look for.

In recent years, approximately 19,000 students have applied for freshmen admission at Carolina. Almost 11,000 of those students were considered out-of-state for admission purposes. Approximately 2,100 those students received admission offers.

Now consider that the top applicants at UNC are the OOS students, as it is much more difficult to get accepted OOS than in-state. Lets compare the SAT ranges:

UNC is harder oos than mich for sure. Still, A2Wolves6 where do you get off saying the op has no chance at unc? The op should take the sat and act again and maybe will do better. Even if the op doesnt do better, he could still get into unc. You have no idea what kind of essays the op will write or what kind of recs they will get and to tell someone not to apply and that they have no chance is stupid. You should def. apply to unc if you want to go there, remember that you cant get in if u dont apply but if you apply there will always be a chance. Dont let someone, especially some kid on this website, discourage you from applying to any school. I think you have a good chance at most of those schools though unc will be a reach. I would consider adding another reach, maybe cornell because according to the data posted above you would be around the 25th percentile which will give you a shot.
