Lots of volunteer, clubs, SNHS,( maybe varsity swim this year?)

2 LOR’s really strong

Please let me know which schools are great targets, matches, reaches, etc!

If you would be so kind as to suggest more CA schools ( public or private) that’d be much appreciated

Thanks so much!

What’s your UW gpa?

Is med school your desire? Bio is a great major but not a great “get a good job” major nor necessary for med school. If med school is in your future, you’ll want to go cheap.

Like Arizona or Arizona State…others mention Utah and New Mexico. Alabama is one to look at too.

I don’t know enough about the UCs other than to know Merced and then Riverside and Santa Cruz (just like when i was a kid) are easiest. And CPSLO is not easy.

Why only California schools when there’s other schools out there with lots of merit or meet need?

Are you tied to CA because you want to be there or you perceive it cheaper (it’s not).

Provide your UW GPA, # of APs, class rank if have and what you are looking for (size athletics, etc) and people can give you more suggestions - if you are interested in that.

Also, what are your cost constraints if any? There’s two things to look at - will you qualify for aid - and if not, what are your parents willing to pay.

For example, Occidental meets full need - if you need aid, and that might be a fit. You can run their net price calculator to see.

UC’s and CSU’s are test blind for 2022 admissions and I agree that Biology is not a great major for future jobs. USF and SCU are test optional and I would try to get into the 1400 SAT range if possible to be more competitive.

A UC/CSU GPA capped weighted of 4.05 makes you competitive at the Cal States and several of the UC’s. What is your local CSU which should be a Safety as long as your intended major is not impacted?

All 3 UC GPA’s? Also cumulative UW GPA for USF and SCU?

Cal Poly SLO and SDSU are probably a slight Reach but you look solid for the rest of the CSU’s on your list.

Biology is highly competitive and impacted at the majority of the UC campuses. Only 3 UC’s have a Business school (UCR/UCI/UCB) so what Business related major would you apply to at the other UC’s?

HS course rigor?

Since the UC’s and CSU’s have gone test blind, your academic record will be weighted very heavily. No admit data as of yet for the 2021 Freshman class to see how test blind impacted admissions at these schools.

For the UC’s, I would say UCR and UCM are very likely while UCSC is a good target. UCD/UCI/UCSD and UCSB are possible but more of a High Match/Low Reach. UCB/UCLA should always be considered Reach schools.

2020 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:

UCB: 14%

UCLA: 8%

UCSD: 39%

UCSB: 40%

UCD: 55%

UCI: 38%

UCSC: 82%

UCR: 90%

UCM: 97%

Make sure you would be happy to attend any of the schools on your list and best of luck.

My UW GPA From 9-11 is 3.65 and weighted is 3.8

I’m aiming for the CLS path, not med school.

I am staying in CA and not going out of state, even if other states have lower costs, etc. because of my parents.

I’ve taken 3 AP’s so far: music theory, Spanish Lang and Spanish lit

No class rank and no cost restraints.

Thx for suggesting occidental I will apply

Local CSU is SJSU

I will be retaking the SAT in September most likely.

Course rigor: very mediocre/ not advanced // 2 honors, 3 APs an honor class in senior year and maybe a dual enrollment class.

Thanks so much for ur suggestions and stats!

Def your Arizona, Oregon schools. UNLV. Alabam, MS State, Miami of Ohio, Indiana, Colorado.

If you want a smaller school there’s lots of choices, etc.

If you want private, some schools, such as Hendrix in Arkansas, have programs to meet the in-state flagship price.

Are you chasing merit? Is cost an issue? If so, then your AZ schools (don’t forget NAU), UNLV, UNR, NM and Utah as mentioned before.

Let us know about your financial picture to hep more. But there’s many a school out there for you, public and private. what size appeals to you - obviously those you mentioned are large. Are you against big sports or want big sports?

Don’t get down on yourself - there’s many schools out there for you - so tell us what you desire size, weather, geographically, etc., and what you can afford (or want to afford).
Thanks

I am a CLS and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona many years ago. CLS programs are highly competitive so it is best to attend a school that has a CLS program affiliation.
Do not hesitate to PM if you have any questions regarding Being a CLS.

SAT will be 8/28 or 10/2. ACT is 9/11.

Tysm: will take in oct.

public and private schools are both considered equally , but mostly chosen due to national rankings.

i don’t care much for sports because i will not be applying as a player to any college. i’m a fan of big schools as you mentioned!

i’m also staying in state and not applying to out of state because my parents want to stay close to me and provide help which in their definition means me staying hopefully in norcal

Southern Oregon University or Lewis&Clark are likely closer than SDSU. So check them out.
If your parents want to help, ask them what with – move in day? Medicine not at the college’s clinic? (Try not being snarky, try to have a neutral tone; sometimes this sentence indicates parents who have trouble imagining their kid is no longer at home; they just want to be nearby as a way tonreassure themselves. Obviously you may have a disability or illness that makes them think you’d need help butbusually once in college students try to handle things themselves).

SDSU - Likely to admit
CAL POLY POMONA - Likely to admit
[CSULB] Likely to admit
SJSU - safety
SFSU - safety
SCU - coin toss
USF - Likely to admit
all UC’s= UCR and UCM are very likely. UCSC is a coin toss. The rest are reaches.

I agree. Southern OR, UNR and OR state are worth a look.
I would probably add Chico and Sonoma as highly likely admits with good academics and a great student experience.

Apply broadly and good luck.

thank you so much for your reply – as to illnesses/health related issues, I don’t have any. But, my parents (at least my mom) is heavily leaning towards me living at home while attending college to cut down the cost of dorm and/or apartment rentals, etc.

yay! so great to hear that SDSU and cal poly Pomona are likely to admit!! I am really interested in UCSC as well as SDSU especially because I’ve visited the Santa Cruz campus and I love that the Boardwalk is nearby. Thanks for the suggestions – I will definitely look into Chico and Sonoma
