Help me find a college like this!

Bennington College (VT) also matches your criteria, but with a much higher price tag with Hendrix.

Appalachian State University sounds perfect for you.

Bard was the school I thought of that matched your description as far as the other students. I have no idea about the costs though. You may want to look into it.

I think you can break this down to publics and privates – with publics having a lower sticker price. UNC Asheville and Appalachian State already mentioned and good choices. I would also add Evergreen State as a suggestion. Sonoma State may also be worth checking out.

In terms of privates, Warren Wilson seems like an obvious match. Other matches would be Hampshire and the College of the Atlantic.

A couple of schools that don’t get much mention on this site but may be worth checking out – Northland College in WI and Sterling College in VT.

Two schools that may fit your discription to a extent are University of Oregon, and University of Minnesota. Both of these schools out of state tuition is around 15k, Oregon total student body ( grad and undergraduate) are near 20000, Minnesota is larger though. Both are in great locations, likely more scenery in Oregon… though Minnesota does have the view of downtown Minneapolis. Football tends to be big on both campuses, and as for social scene well I’m sure you can find any social scene on or off campus, more than likely at Minnesota since it’s located in a larger city ( Minneapolis).
I could suggest other schools but out of state tuition is not cheap.

second UCSC if you are a CA resident

Is the OP a junior or senior? If s/he is a senior, it’s too late for Calif state schools. Plus, they might be too expensive if OOS.

Another North Carolina possibility (if you’re checking out Warren Wilson and UNC-Ashville) is Guilford College.

*and like the other UNC system schools, both financial and merit aid are available to OOS students.

*

I know that UNC-Ashville has merit money for OOS students, but are you SURE it gives FA to OOS students. I know that UNC-CH does, but that school has an endowment. I’m not sure that Ashville has the funding to provide FA to OOS students.

yeah, suny new paltz.

SUNY Geneseo - SUNY New Paltz is probably a little hippier lol

Geneseo has top students and academics, beautiful campus, adorable town, 40 minutes South of Rochester and great camping in Letchworth State Park the “Grand Canyon” of the East.

This is totally what I’m into! Save the money issue…I’m going to worry about that later. But a really chill school in a nice location with access to a city, students are smart, smoke weed, kinda hipsters, strong art program, no Greek or rah-rah *. I got a 2010 on the SATs, so pretty smart but not Ivy material. (Although I love Brown and you probably would too…my friend goes there and he’s happy as hell.)
Okay so schools I’m considering are Lewis & Clark in Portland, OR (it’s in this beautiful lush forest, an hour from Mt Hood and a fifteen minute free shuttle ride to downtown Portland-really cool city, great art and music scene. L&C students are chill as * and they pretty much all smoke, but they’re smart stoners, if you know what I mean). Reed, in Portland as well (chill students but really intense academics). Pitzer in Claremont, CA (beautiful, right near the San Gabriel Mountains, sorta close to LA, and even though it’s really small, you have immediate access to the four other Claremonts, so that’s awesome socially and academically). Also, Occidental in LA, and U of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.
You sound like you’d be more into the west coast, but in case you’re considering east coast, I’d suggest Bard (even though I got kind of weird vibes there) or Vassar, both in NY but not ideal locations. Bennington in VT, but that’s tiny. Or University of Vermont, they’re really outdoorsy, with skiing, hiking, climbing, but I’m sorta reluctant to recommend that since my friend just dropped out because she was so bored academically. Then again, I have no idea how you are academically, ashtopia.
Hope these suggestions help! We seem to be in the same boat.
