I have a single mom who makes under $50k so I need financial aid, I got a 31 ACT, took 8 AP classes, 3.8 unweighted GPA, highly involved in my Art Museum, editor of the yearbook and I work 20 hours a week to support my family and help raise my little sister. Where should I apply!

Start with your State’s public universities. What is your home state?

Go to the financial aid forum and look at the pinned threads there for some full tuition merit aid options.

If you’re a mother, it seems like your options would most likely be limited to schools that you can commute to on a daily basis. So your closest state school or community college is likely your only option.

There are a LOT of schools that give good merit money. I’m with Erin’s Dad, check out the financial aid section. Your ACT scores may also be enough to get serious money from some schools.

She did not say she was a mother. She says she has a single mother. My daughter had a 31 ACT score as well and we’re finding that a lot of private schools will give her very generous merit scholarships. She’s been invited to interview for top scholarships at 3 schools - all good schools. We looked at the average ACT scores at colleges and had her visit and apply to schools where her ACT score was in their top 15% or better knowing she’d get more merit $. She can get a private school education for about the same price as our state flagship schools. The schools where she is interviewing have great four year grad rates - definitely something to consider. She can also take off about $3000 (sometimes more) from all public schools in the area making them even more affordable - we can’t overlook that. We won’t qualify for financial aid so we knew that best strategy was to use her ACT score to get better deals. Definitely cast a wide net at the beginning of your search. As you learn more then you can start crossing schools off your list. You can read up on a bunch of schools at collegedata.com.
