I’m a junior from NH. Currently, my GPA is a 3.4, but it should be a 3.5 by the end of this semester. My SAT was a 1310, 700 ERW and 610 Math. I want to major in communications and possibly minor in a liberal art subject like sociology or anthropology. I can pay up to 32k, but obviously cheaper is better. I’d like to be at a big school, and being close to a city or in a warm climate are bonuses. Currently, I’m thinking of applying to University of San Francisco, UConn, University of South Florida, Florida State, Pace, DePaul, Temple, and SUNY Albany. I know some of these are reaches, financially and academically, so I was hoping to have some help looking for safeties that fit the bill. Thanks!!
32K per year? Are you eligible for need based aid (have you run net price calculators at any schools yet on the school website)?
I could be eligible for aid the first two years because I have a brother who’s currently in college, but my family’s income is in the 110k+ category.
I also have 5 APs, 4 honors, I’m in the top quarter of my class, and I have lots of community service hours.
So state universities in general are less likely to give you any need based aid at all when you are from OOS. But the overall price tag is sometimes lower than private schools. You need to run the net price calculators on the web pages of each school you are considering, and run it with and without your brother to see whether it is within your budget.
Okay! Do you know of any other places that I could try to get merit at?
