Hello,

I a thinkng about a Musical Theatre major or mabe a dance edu major. I want a college in or near the southeast. Can anyone help me?

We’ll need some more info first. What state are you from? What can your parents afford? Will you need merit or financial aid? What are your grades and scores?

I’m fom SC. My grades are decent. As for what I can afford…just help me find the right school and I’ll make it work. Thank you!

Southeast, you should probably look into University of Florida.

What does decent grades mean? What about SAT/ACT? U of FLA will cost you $40K/year.

No stats then no one can help you. I hope you realize that along w/ having too audition you must also qualify academically.

My grades are my business, I’m not Harvard material but my SAT is good. I know I have to audition, I feel very confident in that area. If someone out there could PLEASE just list some schools, that’s all I want.

*As for what I can afford…just help me find the right school and I’ll make it work. *

???

What the heck does that mean? That sounds like a naive belief that loans will take care of everything.

Oklahoma City University
It’s a private school in Oklahoma City that excels in the performing arts. A lot of alum from OCU have won Tony’s, Grammy’s, and Emmy’s.
I suggest you give it a look.

There is a Theater/Drama major Forum right here on CC. You may want to post your questions there and maybe get feedback from people who are in your similar field and would be in a position to help you further.
Also, why limit yourself to just the southeast? Why not a school in and around NYC where you would be near Broadway?
Have you approached you school guidance counselors for their suggestions?

There is also a musical Theater major forum listed and when I clicked on that forum, up popped a list of colleges that have musical theater majors. I would suggest you look at those forums carefully…you may be able to answer your own questions by looking at the colleges listed.

@mom2collegekids, I will not be taking out loans. I’m checking out scholarships, my parents will help me, and if I have to work my butt of to pay for a good school, then I will do it.

My grades are my business, I’m not Harvard material but my SAT is good

Not the way to endear yourself to people trying to help you.

Try Wright-State U in Ohio. Very good musical theater program and less selective than OkCU.

That’s good to hear! :)

But I want you to realize that a Theater major often doesn’t have a lot of free time to work lots of hours. My friend’s child is a theater major, and rehearsals take a lot of his time. When he’s not in rehearsal, he’s in class, studying, or working for pocket money (not for tuition).

That said…the best scholarships are from colleges - not private institutions. Private scholarships are often small and only for one year…leaving you empty handed for the following years.

So…your best strategy should include.

1) finding out exactly how much your parents will pay each year.

2) finding out which schools will give you a good scholarship for your stats. (If we knew your stats, we could help with this).

3) Then, create a list of schools that will work for you financially.
