My parents have made it pretty clear they don’t want me to worry about funding whatsoever. They have plenty of savings. I’m very lilely going to UMD but the weather and thought of living in a single state my whole life are my only concerns.

You can always move out of state after graduation if that’s your concern.

OP - You sound like a good researcher. If your parents have not been doing same, make sure they know current college prices. Many parents are shocked to learn that college can cost $60K/year.

bump

Why on Earth did you bump this less than an hour after the last post?

I was thinking the same after the last bump.

OP, what more information do you want?

What about Purdue? High acceptance rate.

Maryland and UMBC as a safety. Delaware, Virginia Tech, Clemson.

VA Tech, Penn State, Pitt close by.

Ohio State?? Big on football and good programs.

If you are from Maryland, I’d stay away from Texas A&M. I love my school, but I know it isn’t for everyone.

One, he wants good weather, but two, he keeps bumping without giving any of us feedback on the suggestions thus far.

OP, give us some help!

Okay I’ve visited clemson, auburn, vtech, and maryland. I like clemson’s atmosphere and auburn’s love of football. What I dont like about vtech is that it lacks diversity, I don’t want engineers to dominate population. People have mentioned texas and florida, both of which I think im going to apply to. I think I’ve basically got most of the common suggestions that people think of. I also like, despite lack of great weather, wisconsin purdue and illinois.

One of my kids went to Virginia Tech and he loved it but I can’t see paying OOS rates there when you have a great engineering program in your own state of Maryland.

GEEZ! You hit the trifecta of great Midwest, cool, good engineering schools. My rec is choose the least recognized engineering school, Wisconsin, and never look back. They have a great UG focus an the school experience is widely regarded as wonderful. Good luck!

“My parents have made it pretty clear they don’t want me to worry about funding whatsoever.”

If you are going to go out of state, and your parents are not concerned about tuition costs, then why not apply to some private colleges and universities.

Ohio State is absolutely INSANE about football (which to them is a way of life, not merely a sport). Auburn students love football, but are not obsessed like at OSU. Clemson is probably more like Auburn. However, if BIG TIME football is what you want, check out U.Alabama. They give great out of state scholarships: http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out_of_state.html

I’m sorry but if you are an aspiring engineer and money is no object and you choose Alabama based on the football program, you are a dope.

U. Alabama does have great scholarships. My kid #2 qualifies for full tuition plus $2500/year in engineering. My kid #1 is there now (non-engineer) on a NMF full scholarship (astrophysics). But agree with boneh3ad – don’t go just for football, especially is $$ is no object. Go to the best school for engineering. Money is a concern in our household so the debate for #2 is U. Alabama vs instate (VT or UVA) for engineering.
