Help Me Find Another Reach

I would like to add another reach, and I would appreciate CC's help.

ACT - 30

SAT Subject Tests - US History (800), Literature (680)

GPA - 3.31 (misleading, I had a very bad freshman year, however I had a 3.8 last year, and currently have a 4.0, which will be reported to colleges since my school is on trimesters). I have taken all APs and honors, and I have gotten 5s on all of my history exams (history is probably what I'm going to major in).

Background - I attend an elite college prep school, one of the top 25 in the nation. 10% of last year's graduating class are currently attending Ivy League schools. Colleges are well aware of the rigor of my school. I am a Caucasian from the midwest, and wealthy, so I don' bring a lot of diversity to the table.

Extracurriculars -
I have been in 7 plays, and have had lead roles and have won numerous awards for my parts (Best Actor in a Supporting Role for example)
Varsity Captain of Cross Country team, and I also run track
Founder of Campus Libertarians
Co-founder of campus sobriety group
Sports editor for the school paper
Member of the debate club
Played football and wrestling for two seasons, but had to quit due to concussions
Went to a screenwriting camp at the University of Tulsa during the summer
Volunteered at my Drama teacher's film making camp for elementary school students during the summer

Intended Areas of Study - History, Political Science, Film Studies, English

List of schools I have applied to already

Claremont McKenna College
Wesleyan University
Kenyon College
Colorado College
Tulane University
Occidental College
Trinity University
Loyola Marymount University
Illinois Wesleyan University
Earlham College
Truman State University

I would like to apply to one more reach. So far I've been thinking

Pomona College
Amherst College
Brown University
Washington University in St. Louis

I would really like to apply to Georgetown, but there are some required parts of their application that I don't have. What are your thoughts? Please help!

Many of your schools would be a reach even with a 33 ACT. Tulane, Kenyon and Wesleyan look like low reaches to me. Occidental might also be a stretch. You have a pretty good shot at LMU.

LMU is easily a safety, since 27 is their 75th percentile score.

I’m in the 50th percentile for Kenyon and Tulane, 25th percentile for Wesleyan, and 75th percentile for Occidental. I have a funny feeling though that test scores aren’t the most important thing in judging an application…it’s almost like you didn’t read my post

Brown and Wash U are very hard to get into!!!

Georgetown would be slightly easier than any of the 4 you list. How hard would it be to complete their application requirements? If it’s something you cannot easily make up in time, why not ask contact admissions and ask how strict they are about it?

Haverford
Wesleyan
Grinnell

Haverford
Wesleyan
Grinnell

Unless your GC is reluctant to support it, I see submitting an app to Wash U as a no brainer because 1-your St. Louis school is likely well known to them, and 2-because they don’t require an add’l essay in their supp, you could be done with that app in 10 min. You know it’s a reach, but there’s no downside except the fee, and you’ve indicated that’s not a factor.

As you are aware, demographics make this year particularly tough for white females. I’d consider reaching out to a national university rather than adding another LAC to your list.

Good luck!

Kenyon is a reach because, as you state

Their Common Data Set [Common Data Sets and Tools - Institutional Research - Kenyon College](http://www.kenyon.edu/x48453.xml) shows that essays and GPA are more important than scores. I agree with TK21769 in part. Why can’t you apply to G’town? I don’t think they will offer any leeway on the application date since then everyone would ask for an extension.

Note - I’m a white male, if that changes anything

I’d have to take an additional subject test for Georgetown, and schedule an alumni interview. Am I allowed to send the subject test after the deadline.

How about Vassar? Amherst, Pomona, Brown, WUSTL are going to be big reaches.

The alumni interview should not be a big deal. If you’re concerned that one subject test would be reported late, contact admissions. Just ask if they’ll still accept scores from the next available test. If they say no (which I doubt they will), take that as a sign it’s not the school for you.

Besides, you already have a good list of schools.
