I am an incoming senior preparing to apply to colleges. I didn't really take High School seriously until my junior year, and as a result I have a 3.0 weighted culmulative GPA.

There is somewhat of an uptrend, from 2.7, 2.7, 3.2, and in senior year I am determined to make it at a 4.0 UW taking a number of AP and honors courses.

I received a 28 on the ACT, and a 2050 on the SAT (760, 650, 640) which I hope to bring to a 2100-2150 when I retake it.

I have a wide variety of great ECs (Most all of them with leadership positions) that I've stuck with for all 4 years. I'll have very good teacher recs, and a middle of the field counselor rec. Also, I suppose I might fill a diversity need (Low income and Bisexual)

In light of my VERY poor GPA, but with a strong uptrend, and strong standardized testing. Could you recommend some schools I have a decent shot at?

Should I bother with strong LACs like Hamilton and Boston College? What about George Washington and Northeastern? And finally, do I have ANY shot at all of an ivy league acceptance?

Thank You!

Your GPA is too low for any Ivy League…sorry
Hamilton, BC, Northeastern, and GWU are going to be reaches. You might want to consider writing a short paragraph, on why your GPA is so low.

Schools to Consider:

University of Richmond
UConn
The College of New Jersey
Rutgers

Not quite sure how being bisexual would help you at all? And btw Boston College is not a LAC haha. Those schools are all reaches and you have no shot at Ivies. Sorry bud

sexual orientation does not help whatsoever…

if you were a racial minority (hispanic, african-american, etc), then that could be an advantage, but sexual orientation has never been even seen as a remote advantage.

Also, low income is not diversity at all. In the college’s eyes, it means they need to give you more financial aid which only decreases your chances of acceptance at many schools.

Unfortunately, Ivies seem quite beyond your reach. Also, your Test scores aren’t amazing enough to make up for your GPA. A 2150 on the SAT isn’t an impressive one by itself either.
Northwestern is selective, it’s not a very easy school to get into.

The colleges that SeattleBulldog have said would probably be the apt ones for you.
Maybe also consider University of Maryland : )
