Hello, I am a junior in high school currently and really starting to get serious about looking for colleges.I live and Maryland and I currently go to a very good PRIVATE COLLEGE PREP CATHOLIC SCHOOL. We are well known throughout the state and have good academics. My cumulative GPA for freshman and sophomore year is 2.74 ( I really didn't try to my best ability). In Junior year thus far, I have about a 3.3 GPA for this year only (Not cumulative). I played 2 sports sophomore year and have I am in 2 clubs. I have yet to take the SAT but hope to get anywhere from 1600-1800. I also have had numerous jobs to keep me busy. COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS NOT AN OPTION.

I really didn't apply myself at all throughout high-school. That is obviously my biggest mistake thus far.

Some extra credentials that might help me are:
-Jobs (Lifeguard at pool, Cashier/Server at Snowball Stand)
-Took multiple Business Classes in HS (Good Grades in Them)
- Volunteer at Soup Kitchen (40 hours so far)
-Junior Prom Committee + Asian American Club (Junior Year)
- Outdoor Track+ Cross Country (Sophomore Year)

I feel as though the biggest thing that will impress colleges with myself is that I started an online Amazon/Ebay business. Currently, I have over $25,000 in sales and that is continuing to grow.

I am looking for a college in Southern California (LA Area). Since I will be living on campus at least freshman year I would prefer for it not to be a commuter campus.

Here is my list of preferences:
-Southern California (LA AREA)
-Somewhat close to the beach
-Good Business and/ or Engineering Program
-Non-Commuter Campus
-Good Campus life (including parties/greeklife)
-Any size is fine

Basically, Im looking for an OKAY (Doesn't have to be prestigious) Southern California College that I have a good chance to get into. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

LMU is definately my top choice, it is perfect for all of my needs. Price is not an issue.

I am looking for some Match Schools and Some Safety Schools. Thank you soo much!

Any help is appreciated! Thanks(:

What cost? Also, if you look at state schools, in your case CSUs, with your gpa, you would need to calculate the CSU gpa, which ignores your freshman year (which might help you) and adds a point for up to 8 APs. Your gpa then might be quite different, so it would change the picture.

Otherwise, Occidental, Loyola Marymount…

It is really hard to say without your test scores…

You might look into Thomas Aquinas, it is really unusual but looked interesting to me.

Your GPA ain’t great which will probably keep you out of many of the more popular So Cal schools. Without actual test scores, it is tough to give you recommendations - Maybe CSU Channel Islands and San Marcos? If you want to go to a CSU - be sure to take and pass (C or better) all the required courses. This trips up a lot of OOS applicants.

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

Explore that site a bit to see how they calculate a CSU GPA and Index - also note you need an index over 3500.

Good luck.

I have been looking at Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego (Private), University of Redlands, and Chapman. Do I have a shot at any of these? I do come from a college prep private catholic high school that is well respected in my area.

Do you know how to check ‘common data sets’ for colleges? You google their name and common data set. From living in southern California I think you have a shot at Redlands if you get decent test scores, but the LMU I am familiar with is in Los Angeles, not San Diego. Now I’ll look for the Redlands common data set and see if I am close.

Didn’t find a common data set for them, but found this: <a href=“50-50 Profile: University of Redlands”>http://diycollegerankings.com/college_profile/50-50-profile-university-of-redlands/
They should stay on the list, also look into Occidental, I would suggest.

I’d say your chances at any of the non-commuter SoCal uni’s are very low with a GPA under 3.0. Heck a GPA under 3.5 won’t get you into a non-commuter school as an OOS. I’d say you have no chance at any UC other than Merced, and even that’s sort of a reach. No chance at At USC either or any of the top CSU’s. MAYBE CSU San Marcos, it’s by the beach but it’s a commuter school. LMU is a reach definitely.

Trying to get into a school with ~3.0 in probably the most competitive area in the country in terms of admissions is not gonna be easy at all, especially when you have such specific criteria. I would say that with that GPA and being OOS, then there really are no safeties that I can think of in SoCal that fits all of your criteria.
