Help Me Find Safeties

White Male from a competitive school in Northern Virginia (not TJHSST)
Looking to apply either CS or Engineering (yikes)
Don’t need fin aid

GPA: 3.5 unweighted / 3.95 weighted (note: got bad grades fresh and soph but got straight As taking 4 APs junior year)
SAT: 1500 (770 math/730 ebrw) (retaking once for superstore)
ACT: 33 (also retaking)
APs: 5s: Chem, US History, World History 4s: Comp Sci, Seminar (taking 5 more AP senior year)
Extracurriculars (very very weak):
4 years club baseball (+1 year for school, earned academic recognition)
4 years club hockey (+4 years for school, all academic team 3 years and probably this year as well)
20 hours volunteering with Challenger baseball (for people with disabilities) and with a preschool

I don’t really want to go to George Mason or VCU so those are off the table, not really looking to go any further South either

Thanks

Just an aside, why do people start their posts with “white male”? Your gender and race are the least interesting things in your application, and tell little about where you might want to go to school (okay – if you were looking specifically about women’s colleges or asking about HBCUs, then I can see mentioning these traits). But otherwise, it is offputting (to me) that this is the first thing you think we need to know.

Okay…safeties. Your test scores are pretty good, GPA is okay. I could see Dickinson being a low match for you if you wanted CS, and don’t need engineering. You are on the higher end for RPI in terms of test scores, probably another low match. How about University of Delaware, Pitt, or Stevens in New Jersey?

Safeties…
Va Tech?
UMBC?
JMU?

Large, medium, small? Support for hobbies? Rural, suburban, urban? Location? Weather?

We could name dozens of schools, but without further guidance, none of it means much.

What advice did your guidance counselor give you about this? Were the only safeties on the list GMU and VCU?
