Help me find some colleges that....

I had posted a thread on this forum a couple of weeks ago, but I just got back from a college trip and have some new, different things I'm looking for. Here are some things I'm looking for in a university, though it need not have all of them:

-Diversity in terms of types of students. Like students are creative and not afraid to be different, but also "normal", down to earth students. You see? Like a good mix between student personalities I'd say.
-Academically motivated students. I'd want this to be common among then students. Although, I don't want the students to be so cutthroat they're not willing to help.

-A school that reflects my hardwork. I have a 31 on ACT and a 4.0 UW GPA. I'm looking for a school that is highly regarded and will show for my 4 years of accomplishments in high school.

-In or near a city. I learned that cities can offer unparalleled resources to students, and I definitely want a school that takes advantage of the city.
-Have a campus/ community feel (so basically NOT nyu).

-Students are service oriented and friendly.

-School pride/ sense of community STRONG. although, i don't only want it to come from sports or greek life.

-Internships/ study abroad easy and accessable.

-Easy to meet professors and get to know them, small classes for the most part

-Nice, beautiful campus

I was thinking Emory... what do you think, any other suggestions?

Duke fits all your desires. About the city concern, the campus is 8 miles away from Chapel Hill, a decently-sized city, unlike Durham. Duke is a bit more competitive than Emory (11% vs 25% admission rates), but I think you can do it. (I did!)

Take a look into Carnegie Mellon, it has many things your looking for

Schools to Consider:

Rice
Washington University in St.Louis
Northwestern
University of Wisconsin-Madison
College of William and Mary
Georgetown
UNC-Chapel Hill
Duke
Pomona
Claremont McKenna

Thank you to everyone who replied… I’ll take a look at these schools

LAC or small research U?

If LAC, we liked Furman quite a bit and it fits everything you’re asking for. It’s outside of Greenville, but very close to it.

If small research U, my guy chose U of Rochester and it also seems to fit everything you’re asking for.

You haven’t mentioned size or geography. I suggest Macalester College in St. Paul fits most of your criteria as well as your academic profile.

Cost restrictions (i.e. what can your family afford)? Based on the criteria you’ve listed I would add Reed and Lewis and Clark.

Carnegie Mellon and Pitt as they meet your criteria and are next to each other. Also consider the Boston schools like BU, NEU, and BC.

Net price limit?
Intended or possible major(s)?

Before going on a trip, run the net price calculator at each college to determine how affordable it is. If it is not affordable, and there is no realistic chance of a big merit scholarships, it is not worth visiting or applying to.

Of course, also check whether the school has the academic offerings that you may want to study, since that is the whole point of going to school.
