Help me find some matches!

I'm a junior right now and want to find some solid match schools.

Stats:
3.14 Freshman (1 out of 4 honors :l)
3.523 Sophomore (2 out of 5 honors :l)
3.94 Junior (3 AP, 2 honors, most rigorous)
3.53 Cumulative with more demanding courseload. GC may put most demanding.

Senior Schedule: 5 APs, 1 honors, 1 independent study

1410/2110 SAT (taken)
680-720 SATII (approximated)

EC's aren't lacking, but aren't standout.

Characteristics of potential schools: Public or private, no LACs, good social scene. Prefer suburban/urban campus, but will consider rural.

Thanks!

What region of the country and what major are you thinking?

Based on absolutely no other information, I am going to say…

How about Madison, Wisconsin?
Very social, fun social scene, urban suburban. Not an LAC. Not too hard to get into.
[Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison](http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/facts.php)

Closer to home, how about Fordham in the Bronx?
Again, very social, fun social scene, urban suburban. Not an LAC. Not too hard to get into.
[Fordham University: FAQs](http://www.fordham.edu/faq/)

Many, many colleges meet your criteria. Usually rural colleges to not have as good of a social scene as urban/suburban colleges. Social life benefits from the offerings of the city - concerts, festivals, trips to pro sports games.

What major are you interested in? Have you started visiting colleges?

I will second UW Madison but you’d probably need to raise your GPA a little higher.

http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/images/UW_FreshmanExpectations.pdf

According to that chart, you have about a 70% chance of acceptance into UW-Madison. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I haven’t finished my junior year yet but I can’t really raise it any higher than it currently is.

Major: engineering or econ.

I want to keep my options open because I still have a good amount of time to do research and visit.

I forgot my all around favorite match for good students/safety for great students: DePaul in Chicago. Voted Happiest Students. Cool neighborhood with jazz clubs. Easy public transportation access to everything Chicago has to offer. Again, very social, fun social scene, urban suburban. Good academically, some majors more so than others, of course. Not an LAC. Not too hard to get into. We visited with low expectations and were bowled away. It was awesome. The kids who go there (including several from my D’s high school) LOVE it. Seriously! Good luck.

Lehigh, Bucknell, U Pitt, Clemson, Carnegie Mellon

thanks for the suggestions!

I want to make a change. After doing a little reading about LACs in general, I’m willing to consider them. Any LAC suggestions?

Thanks.

bump!aaaaa

Kean University, Montclair State University, William Paterson University of New Jersey

Pitt was my first thought. What state do you live in?

I live in New Jersey

For some LAC’s, look at some of the schools in the Colleges that Change Lives book. They will more than likely overlook your grades from freshman year and most of them would be considered matches/safeties for you. Good luck.

Here’s the website for the Colleges that Change Lives
[Colleges That Change Lives](http://www.ctcl.org)

Also, if you still want a big school atmosphere, check out University of Michigan. It is probably a slight reach, but they do not use freshman grades in their admissions.

Well, what about Rutgers then?

From my schools naviance statistics, Rutgers is a safety for me. I will definitely be applying to RU, but I want to find some other schools.
