Also Purdue has a pretty good engineering program, as does Carnegie Mellon so you can try considering those
I didn’t like Temple when I visited it.
@bm1999 Would you apply to Lehigh ED or RD? Because I am also applying to Lehgih as my top choice, but for the business school.
Northeastern has solid engineering and offers significant merit, but it would be another match school around the likes of RPI.
WPI would be another in a similar category.
@studyhard13 RD because I don’t want to make any binding decisions without knowing for sure I can afford it. Sucks but thats how it is for me.
Agree with adding WPI and Case Western to the list. Stony Brook is good - and you would most likely be invited to their honors college. How much can your parents afford to pay each year?
Here is my (potential) final list with some more data. Scholarships are based on NPC.
Stony Brook (full tuition)
Clarkson ($25,000)
RIT (Unknown)
RPI ($19,000 I believe, also Candidates Choice Application whatever that is)
Lehigh (Unknown, not first choice anymore)
Binghamton (Unknown, maybe full tuition)
Cornell is unlikely for financial reasons and I don’t care too much for Lafayette anymore.
Parents can afford maybe $20,000 a year, but that would be a bit of a stretch.
Are the prices in post 26 your net cost or the amounts of the scholarships you might get?
@austinmshauri Scholarships I might get according to the net price calculators.
Ask your parents how much they can pay, then have them run the Net Price Calculator on each college website with you. It’s imortant to find out if the scholarships bring the cost down enough to make them affordable.
Thats what I did. They said $20k at most a year, but $15k is more realistic. Clarkson’s scholarship is basically half-tuition, leaving $28k. That would leave $8k to $13k that would need to be accounted for. RPI still leaves a big net price. The two SUNY’s are the only ones looking realistic
Any reason why WPI didn’t make the list? I know folks who have done very well with FA there. Also, no Rochester? It’s a great school and might be worth a shot. Do not forget as well to apply for 1x scholarships. Many are local, but some subject-related. Your HS guidance office should have a list of local ones - also, check websites of neighboring HSs as I found some of them did a better job ferreting out opportunities. Check with your local credit unions, too. Most of them run some sort of scholarship program. And if you’re not a member, you can open an account for $1 or $5 and enter. Most of these types of scholarships are $500 - $2500 - but win a couple and it helps out with freshman year. Good luck.
Tulane gives fantastic merit aid
Update 2! I got my transcript in the mail and it shows that my weighted GPA has increased to 97. That will help with college aid!
Anyway, I got free applications from Manhattan, Loyola MD, RPI, Clarkson, and a few others, but the only ones I am interested in are RPI and Clarkson, and maybe Manhattan since it is so close to my house. Anyone know how good Manhattan is with aid? Also, is it super religious? I know it is a catholic school but does religion play an active role in academic life?
