So just to update my list… I want to get down to like 6 from here:
Emory
GWU
UMiami
Babson
Bentley
BC
UMichigan
NYU
UPenn
UVA
A few questions/concerns I have about these schools:
Miami is ranked 50 by USNEWS and 50 by Business week for their undergrad B school, are they a respected program?
Is it worth applying to Penn RD as a legacy or only ED?
What is your take on the schools where you have to matriculate into the business school after your freshman or sophmore year? (UMich, UVA, Emory) Is it worth the risk?

Also, as noted above, FA is no longer a part of my decision, as I have taken it into account for the other 4 schools i plan on applying to.

I don’t know anything about babson or bentley. So with that in mind I will only give you 5 with an explanation after some

Upenn- You should most definitely apply ED if you are sure that you want to go there. The Legacy will help in ED.

Umich- I would choose this or UVA. Not both. I just think that UVA will be harder for OOS admissions then Umich. Other than that I would apply to UVA if you want to go there a lot more than Umich.

NYU- I think this is a match for you and kind of gives you a different flavor from the other schools.

BC- Everyone who I have known who has gone here, loves this schools immensely. Not too sure on admission but I would guess a low reach (don’t take my word on it).

GWU- a good match for you I think. I thought about applying here. Appears to be a cool school in a very large area.

The thing is that I’m not sure that I want to go to Penn because of it’s proximity to my home and parents, and also because I’d like to get to know another city, as I have spent the last 8 summers in university city. At the same time, we are talking about the best undergrad business program in the country, arguably.

See how you feel once decisions roll in. If you’re accepted to Penn, I think you’ll be overjoyed. If not, you’ll have reason not to sweat the rejection.

Well heres my opinion. I’m pretty sure that the legacy influence will only really help in ED. You can take a shot at RD but you have a much better chance in ED for Penn. So mull it over.

Emory
GWU
UMiami
Babson
Bentley
BC
NYU
UPenn

I need to eliminate 3-4 of the above.
I am definitly applying to UMich and UNC early. Ill decide later on UVA since they only have Regular Decision.

Undergrad Business schools tend to fall into a few categories: National Programs such as Penn, UVA and Michigan. Super-Regionals - schools that have networks across a large group of cities- of yours BC, UNC and NYU qualify; regionals - schools strong primarily in their specific geographic area - GWU, Miami, Babson & Bentley - this doesn’t mean they are bad schools, just not as recognizable outside their cities.

Given that breakdown I’d choose two of GWU, Miami, Babson or Bentley.

UVA, UNC and Michigan are extremely difficult to get into from out of state. Michigan is the easiest but Ross Business is hard to get into even once you’re at Michigan. Choose one of those three and drop the other two.

Your Penn legacy will only really help you if you go ED. The bad news is I don’t think your stats are good enough for Wharton.

This past year GPA for admission into Michigan was 3.8. That is the also rumored minimum for Freshman pre-admit into Ross as well, (only 22% of last year’s incoming freshman applying for preferred admit were selected). The published minimum GPA for those seeking admittance after completing the required courses during freshman is 3.3. Rumor on the boards is that a 3.5 is the real minimum after freshman year, approx. 50% get accepted.

Vince would you mind explaining that… so in order to get into UMich in general one needs a 3.8, and that is the minimum for Freshman pre-admit?
THEN, for those who got into UMich and applies, the lowest GPA is 3.3 that got into Ross for their soph year?

If you have questions about admittance into Ross, I would check the U-M website. U-M admits students with a GPA of less than 3.8 but the freshman pre-admit to Ross is very selective. A pre-admit must maintain a 3.3 GPA freshman year to keep his spot.

I would drop Bentley and GWU from the list.

consider how well you will do in the school once you are there (GPA wise). for example, you may be considered a below average student at UPenn while an excellent student at UMiami. a good gpa will get you into a good grad school, just like how high school grades got you into the undergrad school in the first place.
