wow..im a valedictorian and this is the first time i have ever actually felt inadequate. as was said before, do shut up! lol

.... let the flow of the river take you where you belong

what you need to get into HYP: 1600 SATI, 800/800/800 (if you manage to find a way to get 900 that'd be even better), be the author of Harry Potter or Lord of the rings, winner of Olympic games n get a Nobel prize of Physics, volunteer to work for AIDS patients with Mother Theresa for 5 yrs, then set up your own tech firm and be an CEO. if you happen to get a recommendation letter written by the late pope or GW Bush, that'd definitely help a bit.

then you're close to be qualified. hope this help.

I have seen people try to be funny by writing the same thing. It lost its punch. It can only be funny the first 1000 times

after seeing those HYPS rejectees' stats, you should understand i'm not even trying to be funny shrug

wow... my first visit to CC, just tapped in Harvard Princeton - and this is the thread I get. Now I'm way depressed cause you got great stats dude!

it might be hard to get into the HYPS schools since it's a reach for everybody But you have great chances.

and the listing of schools by the person that seems to know you is kinda harsh. I'm gettin nowhere if that list is really true! lol

to the original poster: are u a Chinese? or American who currently lives in China?

your stats are great - id say you definitely stand a chance at hyps.
one question though - how did you get internships at the ministry of foreign affairs and in congress? i'm into government and foreign affairs, but i'm having a really hard time finding internships this summer.

i do model un too!!

i got outstanding delegation representing the U.S.A. at the Ivy League Model UN Conference!!

Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service is extremeley competitive and shouldn't be treated as a "safety" by anyone.

Model United Nations, (11-12)
- President of the Security COuncil (2005)/school
- Delegate of China in ECOSOC (2004)/international
- Delegate of China in General Assembly (2004)/national
- Will be,, Delegate of China in SEcurity COuncil (2005)/international

hey can you tell me how did u get these positions? i am from china, but i v never heard of these.......
your stats look really really good, a little bit unbelievable

I think some of you got this MUN thing wrong..

When I say I was the delegate of China in either a national/international MUN, it doesn't mean I was the representative of CHINA (I'm not Chinese). It means that I acted as the delegate of CHINA,,, you know - the delegation thing. Oh and the council names are simplified since they're the closest ones I could get to the real committees:)

As for my internships, I did my intern at the ministry of foreign affairs in my first year, the one at the national assembly just this january. I got them from someone I knew but it was kind of hard getting in because I had to compete with the university intern applicants too..yeh.

My stats - all of them are true. I wish some of them weren't like the 3 on the AP...

In your country, they have procedures in which you can get official interns in the National Assembly and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? and they allow high school kids to qualify? wow haha. my country doesn't have that.

and are you set on which school you wanna apply to? You extra-hard working people seem to get those things off the road quickly /lol/

even if I don't apply for FA, it'll be hard?

whatever you do, if you need money, you had better be forthright and ask for it. There is nothing worse than being accepted into a school which you have no way of paying for so you cannot attend. You will not be able to work off campus once you get here and you will have to be able to prove that you have the funds to pay for your education in order to obtain a visa.

A word to the wises, there are only a hand full of schools that are both need blind and will meet 100% of your demonstrated need should you be accepted. Check the financial aid policies at each school regarding international students.

NYU is not need blind, they gap and they do not offer $$ to international or transfer students.

Also be reminded that the international pool of candidates consists of thousands of students aplying for fewer than 100 slots allocated to international students at most of the schools on your list so the competition will be fierce. I suggest that you check out the international student forum for an idea of how they made out in this year's admission process.

thanks sybbie. I was really disappointed to see that really only a few schools give financial aid... Duke's one of the school that gives the most out of the top ranking but that's still really tough. Thanks for the advice though :)
