So I’m trying to write my common app essay, but I’m stuck on 2 topics.
My first idea is writing about how throughout high school I helped a sick family member and he inspired me both not to give up and interested me in the field of neuroscience.
(Not sure which way to go with this. And how to make it seem not eulogy-like)
The other idea is talk about my passion for creating movies and how i almost stopped making movies due to a experience (made me hate what I once loved to do) I began to pick up my camera and began to love to make movies again.
Both sound kind of cliche, but I don’t know which topic to pick and which way to go with the topics. Which topic should I pick?
I can’t speak on behalf of the college admissions readers, but to me the second idea sounds a lot more interesting and unique. I think how you shape both essays will ultimately determine which one works more in your favor.
I was in a similar situation as you. I had two ideas for my common app, so I ended up writing both essays. Halfway through one of them, I realized it wasn’t a good essay or topic and stuck with my other idea. So, if you really want to decide which essay you like more, begin with writing both of them haha
