I had a tough math exam when I did the (old) SAT, I scored 500. It is not good, but at least I got 500. It is close to a fail though. But in the verbal section I got a 750! The low math score was because I have not been in class a lot. I have been like in California but I have still been tutored, though. But I kind of missed out with the class so I had not really learned the same amount of stuff they were learning.

So my math skills are really poor and I am just wondering if everybody who scores well on the math SAT could tell me some good ways to prepare...

All the best,

the only advice that I can give you since it worked on me is to practice, practice, practice. Once you practice enough like in math boot camp for the SATs then all the problems get old except for a few odds and ends problems. I think the math section has lots of manipulation problems, IMO. Just analyse problems, manipulate them to your advantage via translation into equations, and solve for the correct answer that they want. I think the math questions are testing the same concept in different words so get used to solving these questions quickly. I have gotten to the point that solving all the problems with time to spare as a breeze after much practice. The dumb mistakes are what drags me down. Lesson after being comfortable with math: don't make dumb mistakes by going too fast.
