Help me in this critical question :)

With its large circulation, Essence magazine has enjoyed___________ only recently challenged by new publications aggressively seeking female African American readers.

a) an aggregation
b)an inclination
c)a prognosis
d)a retrenchment
e) a preeminence

Answer is...............
E

What is the source of this question?

“preeminence” means “dominance,” and is supported by the phrase “its large circulation,” which means it has many customers and subscribers.

Preeminence means it is dominant, as suggested by its “wide circulation”

When I read this question(and did it without looking at the answer) I first crossed off b and c because an inclination would mean it’s inclined to do something, and prognosis is a future outlook usually in medicine.

Then, I read the answer choices a d e. Aggregation… a large group… perhaps of subscribers? I’ll leave it there. Retrenchment… hmm… sounds like trench or something negative. probably not it but I’ll leave it. crap… I’m getting cold feet. preeminent ? Heck yes. thank the heavens I don’t need to choose between a and d. and that’s how you get E (well that’s how I would. if you’ve mastered all the words completely, maybe you can get the answer after just reading it once)

I think the answer is E

got another question
The first moon explorers were rarely expansive in describing their surroundings; on the contrary, their reports tended to be…

A) laconic
B) histrionic
C)Cohesive’s
D)Extemporaneous
E)Implacable

answer is A.
Well i know that by elimination it’s A , but my question is about something else.
Since there’s is contrast to “rarely expansive” i thought the i need a word that means expansive and detailed but obviously didn’t found … Why the answer is “Laconic” which is the complete opposite? May you tell me why I’m wrong?

Their statements were “rarely” expansive–on the contrary, they were–the opposite of expansive.

As in, “Astronauts are rarely fat; on the contrary, they tend to be quite thin.”

Ahaaaa thank you :D
