Help me jumpstart my college search... PLEASE

Hey, I'm a junior and I'm really starting to think about where I'll apply next year. Here's what I'm thinking...

-A university big enough to offer a lot of different major options, since I'm not exactly sure what I want to study (maybe Int. Relations, Education, idk).

-near or in a city, preferably with a campus and a community feeling

-Greek life nonexistent or "presence not pressure", though still a good party scene

-smaller classes where I can meet and get to know my proffessors

-accredited, internationally recognized university

-in the 30 ACT range (4.0 UW GPA), not incredibly hard to get in to

-diversity... not just a bunch of rich white kids

-environment that is stimulating both academically and outside of the classroom/ university...

-solid study abroad program

It doesn't have to have all of these things, I'm really looking for a college that has a lot of these characteristics. PLEASE HELP ME!

bump… i know someone has a suggestion… please

Here’s what I think reading your post. UMIch is good except for the frat and near a city part. Depaul would be good except for the diversity part.

You missed the “In the price range of” statement.

Sit down with your parents and have the big money talk. Until you know how they expect you to pay for your education, and how much money is available, the rest of your criteria are moot. Please don’t set yourself up to be the author of one of next April’s “I didn’t get in anywhere I can afford” threads.

Money isn’t an issue

Then it’s all good!

Maybe look at some of the Jesuit schools which are known for not having frats/sororities, are generally located in or near major cities, are well respected institutions, often are mid-sized schools with a strong sense of community, and they have strong academics and small classes. My S is at Fordham which may be a good fit for you.

^^^ second that. And with an SAT north of 1400 on 1600 scale, you will get money from them.

Fordham is a special place…not for everyone…not one size fits all…but very special and unique. They are 25% or so “diverse”, and admit Pell Grant students proudly. There are a lot of suburban yuppies…rich white kids…but not all of them are what you might think… Fordham kids are generally very non judgmental and tolerant and accepting. (Of course in any university, you will find bad apples…its impossible to weed them all out from applications, but Fordham does a pretty good job.)

Fordham is proud of its broad based core requirements that give you a solid foundation for life…how to think for yourself.

Its a fun campus with athletics and things to do, explore, embrace. Many Fordham students get involved in off campus internships, including non-profits to help others. Those can be extremely enriching and life changing experiences. I know this because it happened to my kid at Fordham. LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES.

I am sure Fordham would welcome you with open arms.

My first thought is USC (University of Southern California). I don’t have any personal experience to speak of, but I think it would meet most or all of your requirements.

Ok, I’ll take a look at Fordham and Michigan… Any others?

Boston College came to mind too. No frats, you’re in a good spot so it could be a match or high match, obviously near boston, pretty good reputation too!

Check out Tufts.
