Hello, I need some advice. First here are some stats:
SAT I: 2150 (M 650 V 750 W 750)
ACT:32
AP's (so far): US Hist: 5 Spanish Language: 4
and here is the problem....
SAT II's: Math IC: 620 US Hist: 640 Spanish: 660
I am going to be a Senior this fall and here are some of the schools that I am looking into (the most selective ones): Cornell, Columbia, Tufts, Amherst, Claremont Mckenna, Wash U, Northwestern, Colgate, Emory
I plan on re-taking some SAT II's in October, and here are my questions: I am going into Pre-calc next year and I need to re-take either Math I or II and I was wondering which one you would reccomend (?), and outside of that which other SAT II's would you reccomend me taking? The Lit test considering my two 750's in verbal and writing? I have been told that I chose some of the most "obnoxious" exams (whatever that means), so any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I realllly want to know just how much weight the SAT II's carry at some of those schools that I mentioned, are they reason alone to keep me out of some of these schools? Will they override what I believe to be good ACT and SAT I scores? please, advise...

...................come on

IMO: Take Lit and Math IIc (mid year) (take a practice test first to make sure you are ready but don't take the one from Barron's the grading is much more difficult than the real test.) If you are still taking Spanish you might consier retaking that given the 4 on the AP you should have done better on the SAT II. I would not suggest retaking US History (too much extra studying to get up to speed) unless you are taking AP Gov. (since there may be some overlap).

Okay, but you say "mid-year", but October is my only option as I plan to apply ED to one of those colleges, so is October too early?

Don't take Math II in October unless you want to do a lot of self-studying for it. You need to already have taken pre-calc to take Math II.

I would recommend a Science SAT subject test if you took a legit science class in your junior year. Physics and Chemistry subject tests tend to take little time reviewing if you took the class. Of course, the "little time" is compared to studying for other SAT subject tests.

there's only a little precalc on Math 2 and you could probably get a 750 without knowing precalc at all (if you are nearly perfect at algebra 2 and geom.) Math2 mostly tests Algebra 2. Only 5 or 6 problems in the back of the test even involve precalc.

is the curve so generous so that I could miss those 5 or 6 problems and still do well?

In general, stay away from language tests because you have to compete with the curves from native speakers.
There is a book, the official SAT subject test
http://www.amazon.com/Official-Study-Guide-Subject-Tests/dp/0874477565/ref=sr_1_9/104-5009155-5314312?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184370969&sr=8-9

You can take the sample test in this book for each subject to see which subject you score best, then study that one with rigor before retaking the test. It's hard for people to give advice on this board because everybody is different. For example, some says the math 2c is easy and the lit test is hard but to a literature person it may be easy to score near 800, while it maybe harder for that person to score better than 700 in math eventhough everybody in CC said Math 2c is easy. Again it depends on the person.
