Help me make the perfect list?? I'm bad at this..

My GPA is about a 3.6 UW, but it was because of only one year that brought it down due to family issues which will be the heart of my essay. I had a 4.3 unweighted GPA going into that year. Following that one semester, my grades shot back up.

I know my SATS will be in the 2200 range as well as the ACT in the 30's
I will do well on the SAT II's as well.

I went to a large public school in 9th and 10th grade.

I go to a private school (11th and 12th) which i think helps because of the competitive curriculum

Oh and I'm a lower class white male.

My sister graduated from Cornell
My brother currently goes to Cornell
My mom was a high school drop out
My father is a Russian Orthodox Priest

Boston U
Colgate U
Connecticut C
Cornell U
Emory U
Johns Hopkins U
Northwestern U
Rice U
Tufts U
Vassar C

My school is a private school and has VERY strong connections with Vassar College.
Although, it is not one of those cream of the crop private schools.

Any other suggestions? I want to go Pre-Med and get into a GOOD medical school.

Thanks for your help.

Where should I apply? I need to cut my list down obviously. Theres so many good schools, how can i make a list where I can be guaranteed acceptance and still be completely happy with all my school choices? Any other schools you would suggest?

Do you have an idea of your class rank?

Everything looks pretty good except for the one D in your sophomore year... I would say that you have a good shot at Boston U, Colgate U, Conn. C, and Vassar, but everything else will probably be a reach for you. But with your (prospective) SAT's, it's worth a try!

How about adding NYU to the list? Or George Washington?

well my school is very small. itll be like 4/40. which sounds really bad im sure. i dont even think they rank us however. its a private school also. that has a really strong curriculum. my favorite schools are jhu, northwestern, and rice. Emory is also really attractive. But im just trying to make sure i dont end out getting completely rejected by making a strong list. i was thinking about nyu, and ive heard a lot of bad things :/. Wow, I looked at George Washington U and it really caught my eye. Ill look more into it.

do you think i could consider GWU a safety?

bump.........

I think GWU would be a match(maybe slight reach since you don't know your SAT scores). It's becoming much more selective and you'll be competing with people that have better grades than you.

Also, you shouldn't guess your scores like that unless you've taken a LOT of practice tests. I don't think there's a good way to predict them.

Ive been taking a practice tests twice a week since january, taken PSATS this year and last year and did quite well.
also how can you say GWU is that competitive?
average SAT is like 1240 out of 1600...
average ACT is like 29

what do you think about this list?
i know i have to narrow it down..
which..lets say..9 of these should i apply do you think?
also maybe what would my chances be?
Boston U -
Colgate U -
Connecticut C -
Cornell U -
Emory U -
George Washington U -
Johns Hopkins U -
Northeastern U -
Northwestern U -
Rice U -
Tufts U -
Vassar C -

Don't compare your average sat score to the average sat score of some stat you pulled out. Upenn's avg SAT score was like a low 1400, how many kids with a low 1400 actually got in?

haha yeah thats true, but i dunno, GWU seemed like a school i wouldnt have to worry TOO much about getting in?

any schools on that list that you guys thinki should remove/add?

10th really killed you is bascially what you should be worried about.

how do you think that should effect my colleges i apply to?
could you maybe chance me?
Boston U -
Colgate U -
Connecticut C -
Cornell U -
Emory U -
George Washington U -
Johns Hopkins U -
Northeastern U -
Northwestern U -
Rice U -
Tufts U -
Vassar C -

I had a bad 10th as well I got along fine...although a D is really bad man. Be SURE TO EXPLAIN THAT!

I can't really chance you unless you have solid stats. You can say you will get a 2200, but will you? Nonetheless, I will assume you got 750's on all your SAT II and 2200 on your SATs.

These are the only schools that I know the adprocess of-
Connecticut C -Match
Cornell U -Reach
Emory U -Reach
George Washington U -Match
Johns Hopkins U -Reach
Northwestern U -Reach
Rice U -Reach
Tufts U -Slight match
Vassar C -Slight match

what does slight mean?
halfway between match and reach?
or halfway between safety and match?
ahaha probably reach based on the looks of those schools.
but the thing is, im pretty sure ill be getting into vassar
vassar and my private school are like, lovers for eachother

also my brother and sister BOTH go to cornell
my sister graduated with a Bachelors in Animal Sciences and is going to Vet School in the fall.
My brother is in the engineering program
do you think that will help me to get into cornell?

bump..
so ive looked through pretty much every decent college
and i need to break down THIS huge list to like 6-10 schools
Amherst College
Boston U
Colgate U
Connecticut C
Cornell U
George Washington U
Johns Hopkins U
Northeastern U
Northwestern U IL
Oberlin C
Rice U
Trinity C (CT)
Tufts U
Vassar C
Washington & Jeffn C
Washington & Lee U
Whitman C

REMEMBER ----Pre-med!
If youre lazy you cant just be like apply there, dont apply there. just anything pleeease people

Boston U
Colgate U
Connecticut C
Cornell U
George Washington U
Johns Hopkins U
Northwestern U IL
Rice U
Tufts U
Vassar C
Washington & Lee U
Whitman C

Thats the list Im currently at.
How should i change it do you think?
What is better for pre-med, connecticut/whitman?

Judging by your other school choices and the fact that you're lower middle class you would absolutely hate W&L. I mean Whitman and W&L are as different as it gets, you really need to look more into your school choices.

If you're really certain you want to go go med school, keep in mind that your college grades will be very important--you probably want to avoid really top schools unless they are known for at least a little grade inflation. There's a reason that a huge % of students arrive at the very top schools wanting to be pre-med, and LOTS of them eventially switch to something else because they can't compete.

Might be better to go to a slightly less competitive but very good and respected school in an environment in which you will be comfortable (like if you're a big-city person, you might not feel real good at Colgate or Oberlin, and if you're not a big-city person, you might not feel good at BU, GWU, or Northeastern). Check out places like Union College (NY), Clark U (MA), and Fordham University as places where you can get a good pre-med education with a high gpa.

well i mean its funny, i grew up in the city, and now i live in hicksville nowheresville New Lebanon, New York. Both lifestyles I loved lol. Im not at all worried about that. As well, i know im going to be very << successful in whatever college i go to. I had planned on applying to Stanford, Harvard etc, before my incident in 10th grade occurred. Those schools just dont seem like the strong, upper tier schools that im looking for...what do you think my chances are at these? I mean right now, im just worried about making a solid list of strong schools that I dont have to worry about getting accepted to a few.

Boston U
Colgate U
Connecticut C
Cornell U
George Washington U
Johns Hopkins U
Northwestern U IL
Rice U
Tufts U
Vassar C
Washington & Lee U
Whitman C

bump. .....

IS THIS LIST PERFECT?
NO ITS NOT?
How could i make it better for pre-med, and cut it down?
Tell me please!!
