This is my list now.
How does it look?

Do you think this is a good list?

Hm... looks like I'm a bit late to the "is Vassar difficult to get into?" argument, but I'll throw in my two cents regardless. First off SweetLax88, Vassar isn't EASY to get into by any means... its an extremely competitive school. I agree that a 2200 on the SATs definitely increases COlsen573's chances, but it's by no means a safety for him. No, its not as difficult to get in as an Amherst, Swarthmore, or Williams; but its definitely challenging.

Now, in response to your latest question, COlsen573... I'd say your list looks good (once again): F&M is a likely while your other schools are all in the good fit/semi-reach range.

BU has notorious grade deflation, which is bad for a pre-med. Possible matches/safeties: Miami U (Ohio), Bucknell, U of Vermont, Villanova, Rochester, McGill.

Hey buddy. A 4.3 unweighted GPA would be straight A+'s. You clearly don't have straight A+'s.

It's a pretty good list. You probably have a good chance at most. This is assuming that you achieve everything you're assuming to achieve.

hey ncody i said only though freshman year and the beginning of sophomore. i had straihgt A+'s. So **** off.

Add Brandeis as a match-y shool.

*Colgate U

what other pre-med schools?

I suggest you look into University of Richmond. It
s a LAC with a good pre-med program and I believe they offer decent financial aid. With you stats (assuming you maintain your grades/attain your projected SAT score), it
d be a good fit.

You haven't scraped bottom yet on your safeties. That's always the hardest one to add, but the most important. You don't have to go there (hopefully) but you just have to apply there so there are no tragedies this time next year. Add a real bottom-feeder (in your mind) safety and then learn to love it anyway because, oh well, maybe you'll transfer from there, or it has a duckpond, etc.
It's no insult to you; it's protection.

is that actually a good idea?
Or if i get rejected to all, is it better to take a year off, do some work, make some money, do some volunteer work, and re-apply?

Thats what i planned if rejected to all (Including F&M and Whitman) which i considered for the most part safeties.

HIGHLY unlikely that you'll be rejected from F&M, at least. I don't know much about Whitman so I can't speak for that school... but I applied to F&M this past year with stats around yours (maybe a bit less impressive) and got a nice merit scholarship to go there. I'd say your list looks very nicely balanced.

updated list

Colgate U 4
Davidson C (ED) 1
Franklin/Marshall C 5
Haverford C 2/3
Washington & Lee U 2/3
Whitman C 6

Still need a couple more

Thats my order in "would like to go". :)

Cant decide if i like W&L or Haverford better.

Definitely Davidson first choice however. Its AMAZZZZING

Any other suggestions for pre-med in my range?

Also, i took the SATs today and am positive i have done well...very well

I figured id start this up again

I still need opinions about making a list.

Please either just chance me or tell me schools to consider/reconsider. Please be honest but kind, I'm sure you remember what it was like applying to colleges.

GPA: 3.43 UW
Projected for Time of Application GPA: 3.54 uw
This GPA was because of only one year that brought it down due to family issues which will be the heart of my essay. Following that one semester, my grades shot back up. You can see from the grades below.

I took the SAT two days ago, and im fairly certain i got a 2250+.
If not ill be disappointed. If i get lower than a 2150 ill take it again.

I went to a large public school in 9th and 10th grade.

I go to a private school (11th and 12th) which i think helps because of the competitive curriculum. It sends one or two (out of a graduating class of 40) to one of the best schools each year. This year was JHU, people have been sent to MIT etc...

Sports :
Freshman Basketball Team (9th)
JV Basketball Team (10th)

Science Prefect (12th) (Most likely)

Volunteer Work :

An additional 200 hours will be done this summer at a local animal shelter (SPCA) and a local hospital.

AP Tests :
Calculus AB - Haven't taken yet. Hopefully a 4+.

Chances are I won't even send in my AP scores. Take that into account.

Any classes that offered honors i took.
My current private school does not offer any honors or AP classes, but is a "college preparatory" school.

Getting a job this summer as well...40 hours a week.

I was suspended for 3 days for being behind a closed door with a girl. (Private school rule)

Oh and I'm a lower class white male.

My sister graduated from Cornell
My brother currently goes to Cornell
My mom was a high school drop out
My father is a Russian Orthodox Priest

What do my chances look like?

Applying for Pre-Med

I feel like I have no chance.
I plan on applying Early Decision to Dartmouth
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
This is how I figured it (Hope it is)
* Colgate U - Low Match/Match
* Dartmouth C (Early Decision) - High-Math/Probably Low Reach
* Franklin/Marshall C - Safety/Likely
* Haverford C - High Match/Low Reach
* U Pennsylvania - Reach
* Washington & Lee U - Match/High Match
* Whitman C - Safety
Does anyone agree/disagree? Comments would be so great!

reject of the family

what is that even supposed to mean.
I could get into Cornell if i wanted to.
I dont want to go there.
We have a legacy, and plus with both siblings being successful there, it would be so easy to get in.
I hate it there however.
Good call dude.

Brown U -
Colgate U -
Cornell U -
Dartmouth C -
Franklin/Marshall C -
U Pennsylvania -
Washington & Lee U -

This is my new list..
Any comments/advice?

Dartmouth early action.

Watch out applying to Dartmouth early if you're worried about financial aid - if they do accept you, you've got to go if they give you money according to the need THEY think you demonstrate.

Also, even if you are applying ED, Dartmouth is an Ivy, and isn't really a high match for most people, except exceptional applicants who've done something like cured cancer. You'd better have a really good explanation for sophomore year (and if you can get your counselor to help explain it, that might be helpful).

Also, if you hate it at Cornell, then don't put it on your list. Spend your time applying somewhere you're really interested in! :)

Good luck.

well i dunno, i havent worked there. i just dont wanna work THAT hard. cause cornell is like harder of the hard.
